I did get the okay from Axiom to post this fundraiser.

I am participating in a wheelchair relay to raise money for a great cause. The Canadian Paraplegic Association is an amazing organization. They have helped me immensely, whether it be assisting with my initial transition from the hospital to my home, setting me up with therapists etc. in my community, they purchased my electric front door operator, front door intercom, and the most important thing that they did (thanks to Heather Hollingshead) is help me get attendant care, without which I wouldn't be able to live in my own home; I'd be living in a complex and I would have far less freedom than what I do now. They have also been an excellent resource for information and guidance; I don't know where I would be without them.

I know this is specifically Canadian, but I also know there are many good people on this forum that would be willing to help out regardless.

Please sponsor me and help make a difference. Together, with your support, we can reach and even surpass our fundraising goal!!

Here is a direct link to my page where you can make a donation and learn more about the event.

Thank you very much everyone. If you would like to know anything more about the organization etc., feel free to ask.

Oh yes, you do get a tax receipt for any donation over $5, but I don't know if it works for US residents.

Dean, thank you very much for the pledge. I'm getting up today so hopefully I will be able to get a couple pictures. My sister is also participating and using my manual chair so maybe she will come over also.

Dean, I didn't get a chance to take any pictures today as I was late watching The Last Samurai, so hopefully oh get to take some tomorrow.

So far we are at $840!! 84% of the way!!

I tried to sign up for a donation on your page, but it required a Canadian Province and zip code. (Odd, as it allowed me to select United States as my country)

Is there another page I can go to?

When I picked United States it wouldn’t let me chose Arizona until I started typing my address. Then it let me pick U.S. states rather then Canadian provinces.

Pictures on race day would be neat if you don’t get a chance before.

How did you like Last Samurai? I went into it not expecting to like it much but actually did.

Just checked your page and it looks like you’re at 94%.

Come everybody, lets put Cam over the top!

Cheers,
Dean

Thanks Adrian, Lorenzo1000, bren, onn, and I received another donation from a Mark G (not sure if you're a member of the Axiom forum), but if you are, thank you very much along with everyone else.

We've surpassed the goal thanks to all of your support!! I have three more days and some more pledges to come from friends and friends of friends!!

As I mentioned before, you guys are awesome!! I'm not stopping yet though, in fact I've increased my goal in hopes of generating more pledges!!

Thank you very very much.

Cam

PS. My sincerest apologies if I've forgotten anyone.

Just received another donation from a Richard W., and I'm not sure if you are a member of the forum or not, but if you are, thank you very much for your pledge!!

Edit-Richard is Wild, so thanks Wild \:\) .

I will get some pictures during the event for sure. I have some of my caregivers/friends going, along with other friends and family.

I didn't know what to expect with The Last Samurai because I absolutely despise Tom Cruise, but very much enjoy martial arts movies and I ended up thoroughly enjoying the movie. I think Tom played an excellent part in it.

I just received three donations in less than 10 minutes and one was from Jason L. I know there are quite a few Jasons on the forum so thank you very much if it was from one of you, very much appreciated!!

Jason L., That was me Cam, and you are very welcome.

Thank you very much Ed (merchanman), greatly appreciated. There are two more days and I'm hoping that I can raise another $500. With help from other caregivers getting pledges, I think it's possible!!

Oh to double my goal!!

Dean, I need you to do a cheer for me again \:\) .

You've made it beyond your mark Cam, congrats.
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/18/09 11:44 PM
Thanks Rick, actually, you and everyone else has helped make it beyond my mark.

As another member (who also graciously made a donation) said "let's hope you can make it past $2000".

Is there anyone that can help spiffnme?? He/she is having a difficult time with their donation. Here is their problem:

"I was able to select US as my country, but when I put in my zip code, and selected "next", it prompted me with errors saying my zip code and state/province had to be Canadian."

Maybe somebody could send them a PM.

Thanks everyone,
Cam

I just received two pledges, one from a Bill M., and another from a Natalie M. I don't know if either people are users of the forum, but if you are, thank you very much for your pledge, it is very much appreciated.

My sister's favorite musician is Johnny Cash, and she traveled down for Cash Bash a couple years ago. To make a long story short, she has kept in contact with a lot of people she met via Johnny Cash's forum, and she just contacted the forum moderator and he immediately said yes to posting the fundraiser on the forum and that he wanted to make a donation, which he did. The neatest part is that he was one of Johnny Cash's best friends.

Pretty cool!!

Hmmmm, sounds like you might have to move the goal posts again, Cam!! \:\)

Wow, look at Cam go everybody!

Nearly double his original goal and still counting. Just one thing. There’s no way we can let the Cash Bashers out do the Axiomites, so if you haven’t already, jump in and support Cam and the honour of the forum.

ON ON! & ON IN!

Thanks a lot Sean, greatly appreciated. With your donation I'm just over $100 away from $2000 with one day to go!!

You guys are amazing!!

Oh!! I was looking at your link at the start of the thread (the picture at the top of your home page) and had me wondering how they were going to do this in February!!

Looking good Cam, I'd bet you'll make it.

Congratualtions Cam and everyone else!

You broke through the $2,000 barrier!

Congratualtions on achieving your goal Cam.
Posted By: Murph Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/20/09 02:17 PM
My usual rule is that I don't contribute to online requests because I get way too many of them every week and I'd be broke. I normally reply and say if they come and see me personally, I will gladly donate, just to weed out a few. Of course, I don't expect you to visit from Ontario so I'm happy to respond to a great cause.

I hope my modest donation helps and good luck in the relay.
Posted By: Adrian Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/20/09 02:53 PM
I'm thinking you're gonna break $2500+ Cam!! Put the pedal to the medal we still got the rest of today!
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/20/09 03:00 PM
Murph, thank you very much for your donation, it's extremely appreciated.

Also, thanks Mark, your donation put me over the $2000 mark!! Greatly appreciated buddy.

I'm going to send out the last recap to all my friends on Facebook, so hopefully we'll get it even higher!! Exhausting all my means for an organization that has helped me out so much.
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/21/09 12:22 AM
Hey guys, a update on my fundraising.

So far on my page people have donated $2331.00, and I have more pledges to add as follows-

One of my caregiver raised $200
my sister has raised $200
I have another $200 raised that hasn't been added to my total.

Basically that will put me at $2931, and I need another $70 to make it to $3000!! Everyone has been extremely generous, and I very much appreciate everything that everyone has done, but I was wondering if we could squeeze out another $70. My sister is also posting this info on the Johnny Cash forum.

Again, I appreciate everything wholeheartedly, and don't want to come across as being pushy.

Thank you very much.
Cam

$50 short of $3000, just received a donation from Australia. Truly amazing!!

Alright guys, I haven't forgotten about you. I have quite a few pictures from the wheelchair relay and I will do my best to get them on here in the next couple of days (If I'm up I can't use my computer). I'll also include a more thorough message with details. I went out last night and got schmammered and I'm still hung over , so I'm not really into doing anything. Oh yeah, my friends had to drive my wheelchair for me because, well, I couldn't \:\)
Posted By: grunt Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/23/09 12:37 AM
Sound’s like you had quite the time Cam. Good to hear you survived the post race “down downs” which I figured were the reason you were MIA. Looking to forward to the event pics when your recovered.
Posted By: Wid Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/23/09 08:50 PM

Yo Cam, how did it go?
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/23/09 10:35 PM
It went great Rick, it was a lot of fun. I have all the pictures loaded online, but I'm just waiting for the total amount that I raised, and then I'll fill everyone in!
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/24/09 08:17 PM
Hey guys,

The wheelchair relay went great, there was a huge turnout. It turned into a family event for me which was nice. My mom and dad were volunteering and my sister was on our relay team.

In our first heat we finished first and went straight to the finals, but in the finals Melissa and I had to put our electric wheelchairs in first gear, and her first gear was pretty much slower than walking speed, so although we were ahead by quite a bit, everyone caught up to her and lapped her \:\) so we ended up finishing third.

We ended up winning for the team with the most money raised, and I ended up winning for the most money raised by an individual.

In the past I haven't taken part in events like this, but I do plan on participating in more in the future.

Again, thanks for everyone's donation, it was extremely magnanimous of all of you. Over the years I have become very cynical because of things that I have gone through with caregivers/medical professionals etc., being involved in political and social issues, and the general state of the world today as we know it. It was a definite breath of fresh air to receive donations from people that don't even know me personally, but just wanted to help out a good cause. I definitely won't forget this.

Here is the link to my album for the relay, enjoy!! If it doesn't work please let me know.

Thanks again everyone, and thanks Axiom for allowing me to post this on their form.

Cam

PS. I still haven't received the final numbers on how much was raised, but when I do I'll definitely for you guys in.

Hey Cam...

Next time I'll come out and be your pit crew, a little change in gearing, a few more cells in the battery and we could have kept you in first.

Good to see things went well,

If that doesn't work, I'll rig up a transfer case so it becomes 4wd and you can take short cuts.

If that doesn't work, I'll shoot out the tires of your competitors...

Love the Wheelie pic, great stuff. Glad it worked out. Not often in life we get to exceed our goals. Guess you better aim higher next year! Congrats.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the day, and by the sound of it, the night time fun as well. Keep on rockin Cam. Congrats pal.
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Fellow Axiomites please read!! - 02/25/09 11:36 PM
Well, my total fundraising is in and it came to $3239!! Thanks also to a couple late pledges yesterday and today from Craig (spiffnme), and someone else who drops by the forum once in a while but we all know him... yes, I'm talking about Ian (the big man \:\) ).

This is the second year for the event, and last year they raised somewhere around $1800. This year they raised somewhere between $11,000 and $13,000, simply amazing!!

Thanks again everybody! And yes, a pit crew and somebody shooting the tires out of other people's wheelchairs is a great idea \:D .

I was just notified that the website will be up for three months, so if you would like to make a pledge it would be greatly appreciated and going towards a wonderful organization!

Thank you very much!
