Yes another headphone thread \:\) . I want to get a pair of headphones suited just for movies and gaming. I have a pair of Alessandro MS1 which I listen to about 2-3 hours of music per night which I am very happy with. Their sonic qualities remind me of Axioms.

Now what I want for gaming/movie headphones is a massive soundstage and comfort. $80 - $200 open or closed. Some cans I am considering.

Audio Technica AD700
Beyerdynamic DTX800
Sony MDR-7506/V6
Sennheiser HD555/HD595
Shure SRH240
Shure SRH440

I've been waiting on my Shure 840's for a few months. I got it at an online retailer that bombed the price so much that Shure cut them off for a few months. Supposed to be next month.

Those have gotten great reviews. I would think for this type of app, perhaps closed works better. The 440's have also gotten decent feedback.

I've got the Audio-Technica ATH A900's. Huge soundstage for gaming, closed headphone with no amplification required. It's a large headphone, but utilizes their "3D Wing Support" for comfort..works well for me!

Whats the price on the 900's?

They're a little outside your price range, but can be found for $220 new. I haven't heard them , but the AD700's are said to be a good value, though they may not have as much bass as the A900's from what I've read.

BTW, I wouldn't consider the A900's as 'forward' sounding as the Axioms for all audio uses (If that's what you prefer), but for gaming, which is why I bought them, they're excellent.

I am having a hard time deciding. Beyers and AT are hard to find in Canada without being shipped from the US. However, I have found a few online stores that have a nice selection of cans. I am still interested in the Shures and Sony MDR as well, argghhhhhhh.

http://www.long-mcquade.com/ (they do not carry the AD700)

Has anyone ever dealt with either of these companies before?

Long & Mcquade but only locally. I'm thinking about ordering a drum amp online from them though as the local store can't seem to get one in but will give me a store credit for the shipping costs since they are having trouble.

+1 for willing to absorb the extra cost.
-1 and a big head scratch as to why I get get stuff shipped from their distributor but they can't. I understand the concepts of separate inventory pools but this does make them seem a bit cludgy.

I think I will be ordering the Audio Technica ATH-AD700. The only thing I am skeptical about is the purplish pink and gold look to them but some say the pictures do not do them justice and they look stunning . Its wierd because some pictures look like they are in black and gold or black and silver. They look very comfortable though and are reviewed as such. These phones should do well with gaming.
