Happy birthday Peter! I hope you have a wonderful day (as always). Okay, how about an extra wonderful day \:\) !

Peter, I've often wondered why you have a wind turbine as your avatar, do you use renewable energy? I want to get one for my house; not that large mind you \:D .

Happy Birthday Peter! As my Grandfather used to say, "May every day be more merry than your last till you drop dead of happiness."

Mostly because I took the photo and I like it. ;\) It's a $1.89 million, 1.65mw (~500 homes) wind turbine located in a nearby town. They're quite proud of it, and I just think it's an interesting structure. Both technically and aesthetically. \:\)

No, but if I had the means (enough property, appropriate location, the money) to put up my own personal turbine, I'd do it. Of all the current alternative/"green" electricity-generating methods, I think wind energy holds great promise for the future. Especially around here, as my state (Illinois) is said to have tremendous wind-energy potential. And while some people find them aesthetically displeasing, I think they're actually kind of beautiful.

Peter, I was wondering if you have heard of geothermal energy? Tidal, wave, wind, and solar power are currently in use, and with wave power having the potential to provide ½ of the earth's required energy, and all four combined providing the entire earth's energy forever, geothermal energy trumps them all. Geothermal energy uses a technology called heat mining through a simple process using water. An MIT study in 2006 concluded that 13,000 ZJ's (zedo joules) are currently available, and 2000 ZJ's tappable with improved technology. An interesting technology considering that the total energy consumption of the earth is about 0.5 ZJ's a year, therefore approximately 4000 years available using this technology alone. The energy is also limitless, because the earth is constantly providing heat.
