Any help would be appreciated, but please speak in laymans terms.

Ok, as some of you know we will be heading to MI soon to pick up our new travel trailer RV. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado that came with towing package.

It has the plug for a 7way plug, however, I've only used it through the years to pull a small utility trailer and my fishing boat. So I have an adapter that I put in, and then plug my 4-way plug into that, for my trailer/boat. Actually, I sold the boat many years ago.

Anyway, I'm trying to make sure the current 7way recepticle is wired correctly, for when we go get the travel trailer. One example is for control of the electric breaks...

I was taking everything apart to inspect, and it appears not all the wires are hooked up. Then I tried to figure out how to hook them all up, and all the dang diagrams online confuse me and don't match how mine are currently hooked up. I assume this is because it was not originally wired for pulling a travel trailer.

Below is what my plug screws look like on the truck plug, and how it was currently screwed togethor, only using 4 of the wires.

Currently:
white wire hooked to white screw
drk green wire hooked to brown screw
brown wire to green screw
yellow wire to red screw

I had a extra Lt Green and Blue wire that were not hooked up to anything and just inside the wire loom.

When I look at some of the diagrams on the internet, they talk about wire colors I don't have, for example, black.

This site is one example...

I'm just trying to figure if I should leave the 4 wires hooked up the way they are, in case I ever want to use my adapter and pull the utility trailer. If so, do I hook up the blue wire to the blue screw for the electric break? What about the Light Green Wire, I don't see that mentioned anywhere, and I don't have a black wire, unless the brown one is actually black?

This is more confusing than this hobbey,, arggg.

I see now that the main wires used for a 4-way hookup are the colors white (ground), green (right turn/stop), brown (tailights), yellow (left turn). so i would assume I would want to leave these alone not to disturb when I use my adapter and utility trailer?

Will this screw up the recommended wiring for a travel trailer. I can hook up the blue for the electrical, but still confused on the Light Green wire...

If it were mine, I'd take it to a pro and have it done right.

I just found another chart that mentions light green is a GMC color for the auxiliary for Backup lights, I think it is the center screw, hmmm maybe I figured this out myself. I guess I don't have to hook anything up to the black screw. hmmm

I trust you found this site as it has the same diagram

For your 4 wire you have the wiring correct.

Yep, I sure did Jay. I'm pretty sure I just leave the 4 hooked up the they are, and add the blue to the blue for the trailer breaks. Still researching the extra light-green wire, which I think goes to the center for auxiliary backup lights. I don't have a black wire, not sure that is a problem..

You got it Rick. LG is back up lights which I do not think you have and blue is for your trailer brakes.
