The section discussing the antenna issues are particularly interesting.

Mines en route from China as we speak. July 7th expected delivery date. I have the 3g (not the 3gs) and since my 2 year commitment has almost expired, I was able to re-commit to get the discounted price. Funny thing is I can sell the 3g for about $125 on E-Bay easily now. I'm trying to convince the wife to give up her old do-nothing phone and use the 3g instead.

The store near my house still has them in stock (at least they did yesterday). I have a friend that works at ATT and she said they can order them and get them in in a couple of days. My 2yr contract for my iphone 3g doesn't expire until may of 2011, but for some reason ATT says I am eligible for the $199/$299 price on teh iphone4 with a new 2 yr contract. My wife however must wait until January 2011. We bought our phones at the same time so not sure what that is all about.,.. I think it is something to do with primary versus secondary lines on the account.

I'm debating on buying the new phone, or waiting until the next model which addresses the antenna issues. ot sure that it matters really since I'll be slapping a case on it I'm sure.

So fanboy here has one. I upgraded from the 3G. In general, reception is MUCH better. In the middle of Silicon Valley on the 4th floor near the window facing Moffet Field, I barely get 1 bar on 3G coverage on an iPhone 3G. (I won't mention that a Blackberry Curve blows this away...) I can't even take calls. W/ the iPhone 4, I can take calls now. I'm right-handed and don't use the death grip, so I'm not prone to the antenna issue. But the issue does exist w/ my phone. I tried the bumper (which I sold the other day after 20 inquiries on CL...), and it does solve the problem. But it's hard to use a dock w/ it. I ended up buying a skin from Gelaskin that also has side skins.

I work in wireless and yes, it's a bit stupid to have the antenna designed this way. I can't say why they made this choice but bear in mind that industrial design trumps EVERYTHING in Cupertino.

Is this a deal killer for me? No because every phone has some problem and this one doesn't affect me that much. It's MUCH faster than my iPhone 3G and there's tons of iPhone-only apps that I use on a daily basis that have become part of my workflow. The screen is beautiful and if you are committed to the Apple ecosystem, stuff just works. The options like the Droid X and Evo are VERY good and could possibly trump the iPhone 4 in many areas (including antenna coverage). But it's hard to ignore the breadth of the app store which is where the iPhone reigns supreme.

I have seen 3G phone being sold for about $200 on craigslist.
I had sold my 2G for $250 and now 3G, mostly for the same.

Will get my iphone 4, this week. Wonder when jailbreak will be available though.

BTW, for squeezebox users..the iphone app "iPeng" is awesome to control the music.

Yeah, I was only 17 months into my 2 year contract and I was eligible for the discount. It surprised me. If I had the 3gs I probably would have waited a bit, but I think the 3g to 4g upgrade will be very noticeable.

I knew that anyone who had a contract that expired anytime in 2010 was eligible for the upgrade, but I had no idea that a contract expiring in may of 2011 would be eligible.

A buddy of mine has one at work and I played with it for a while. Ran the speedtest.net app simultaneously on 3g with my 3g and his iphone4 and he beat me everytime. (up to double on DL and up to 8-10 times on UL at best.)

Checked with the ATT store and they are all sold out now, but I can order and should get in 7-10 days. Probably will place an order next week if they don't have any in by then.

Up until I got this phone (3gs), a cell phone was used to just make calls. I use it for everything now. I can easily surf the web, play my tunes (I hook it up to the house, play the Pandora app and sit outside and listen through the Algonquins), check the weather, etc.

Next app I'm buying will be after I get the new phone... The Slingbox Player. I Sling my stuff from home to me on the road, but to be able to watch my MLB Package on my phone wherever I am is what tech is all about. Plus, it allows you to program your DVR from your phone.

I also want the Slingplayer. I've been too cheap to spend the $30. I've tried out the new Hulu app. Very nice.

Someday, I'm going to have to check to see what phone would be the best replacement for the PDA that I currently have to carry separately. I've never really given a Smart Phone or Blackberry serious consideration, but it's getting old to keep carrying both.

There is no way a PDA can match a current (Android, iOS, even Blackberry) smartphone.

Typo. I have the 3g now, not the 3gs. The 4 is somewhere on a boat now I think...

I bought a 32gb iphone 4 today. Purchased it online from apple and the wait time is 3 weeks + 5 days for shipping. booo.

I got mine in the mail the other day and it's fantatsic. What a difference in speed from the 3g. I finally got around to buying a Belking Bluetooth audio receiver (for $49) and hooked it up to the stero downstairs that feeds the outside speakers. Now all I have to do is sit out on the deck, pair up with the receiver on my iPhone, and play (and control) all my music while I'm sitting there.

It's almost like magic!

Cool, I never knew that you could do that. I occasionally use my current iphone to control my denon via the web interface but it is kind of slow and sluggish, especially from the iphone. I am able to control all of my FLAC files that are stored on my desktop with my iphone and have them play through my axioms in another room. I don't do this very often as it is easier to sue the denon remote obviously. I could see myself doing this if I had some Algonquins though.

Does it have a bluetooth transmitter, too, or does it use the built in one? I'd be interested in using that with my wife's iPod classic, although I have an iPhone.
Nevermind, I looked it up.

The only thing to remember is that the range of Bluetooth is a lot less than WiFi (only about 30 ft). So the receiver has to be pretty close to the phone for it to work well.

For those who are interested, this is the receiver:

So is the bluetooth transceiver still working well?
Posted By: SRoode Re: The most thorough iPhone4 review - 10/06/10 11:15 PM
Yep. Just don't stand between the phone and the receiver. It has a limited range (which the phone and receiver are within), but it is going through a ceiling and deck. But, it really works great for the price.

Hmm. Sounds like it should be hunky dory in a typical 10 foot away living room type scenario.
Posted By: SRoode Re: The most thorough iPhone4 review - 10/07/10 01:41 AM
Oh that will work just fine.
