A prof explains why you should stick with mono
Posted By: jakewash Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/30/10 05:23 PM
"...good ol' American mono" smile

Speakers are wrong. You should only listen to live (non-amplified) performances.
Posted By: CV Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/30/10 07:39 PM
Sound is wrong. You should only listen to other people's thoughts.
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/30/10 08:51 PM
Listening is wrong. Audio should be convert to visible waves with captions.

When do we get to the naked dancing girls?

Naked dancing girls are wrong?

Chris has finally said something completely wrong!

That's a great ad!

What ad? Where? Is it on the internet? Where can I find it? TELL ME!!!!!
Posted By: Adrian Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 02:07 PM
Must be a "Bare Naked Ladies" song converted into visible waves.
Posted By: danmagicman7 Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 06:55 PM
My "Bare Naked Ladies" DVD only plays music. My evening is ruined!
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 07:49 PM
My old Brittany Spears DVD has no audio.
Posted By: Adrian Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 08:00 PM
Much like other similar pop acts, she is better seen than heard.
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 08:23 PM
I didn't know there was such a thing as a pop act that's worth listening to. Actually, when Christina Aguilera gets away from all that self-aggrandizing crap, I can listen. But other than her, she's the only one I can think of that actually has a beautiful singing voice.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 08:44 PM
Probably depends on what you define as pop. Not that I can think of one I find listenable off the top of my head, but...
Posted By: CV Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:01 PM
There are definitely varying shades of pop. A fair amount of what I listen to could be plugged into that category. Marina, for instance, definitely has her pop sensibilities, and I would agree that she's not the world's greatest singer, but her vocals are still fun, her music is catchy, and she's a total goofball. I find that worth listening to.

And then there's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ybufq1T5io
Posted By: CV Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:05 PM
I made it twenty seconds in. Is that a record?
Posted By: CatBrat Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:08 PM
Now I feel violated and urpy all over.
Posted By: ClubNeon Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:10 PM
There's actually a reward for going farther.

Hint: I listen to Hot Chip on purpose; this video/song is ironic.
Posted By: ClubNeon Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:14 PM
But it could be that I'm biased.
Posted By: CV Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:22 PM
laugh

I've heard Hot Chip mentioned, but I'm not familiar with their stuff. 20 seconds of familiarity doesn't count, so I can't exactly judge your taste yet.
Posted By: CatBrat Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:24 PM
I just copy someone else's opinion.
Posted By: ClubNeon Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:26 PM
They are Electropop. Pretty goofy, but make use of 80's toy synths and stuff. They've also remixed a track or two for Beck.

I saw Hot Chip with LCD Soundsystem. Indeed goofy, but pretty cool. Never saw steel drums used with synths and echo-y guitars.
Posted By: ClubNeon Re: Stereo is wrong - 10/31/10 09:50 PM
Yeah, a lot of their tracks feature steel drums. They sort of blend in, but once you hear them, you're like "what the heck are steel drums doing there?"

Very true, Ken. For disambiguation I'll use this definition - "Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple love songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes."
