I don't know if any of you have been paying attention to this, but the porn industry is getting it's own "dot," as in "Catholicschoolgirls.xxx"

So, every major entity in the US is desperately trying to by its name as dot-xxx.

Target, Disney, banks, everyone!

Why?

Because sleazy pornographers have been using misspelled URL's for years. If you typo "Dinsey.com," you will likely end up at a porn site. And they already have ALL the possible, common typos covered for every high-traffic site that exists.

So there's a mad dash to buy your current address as .xxx as well, so that they don't beat you to it. MySpace.xxx Hmmm?

When I first read of this, I thought it was hysterically funny. I guess I wouldn't if my small business ended up having a double life with a triple X, alternate universe site. Well, unless, for my troubles, they gave me lifetime free access.

Whaddayou suppose one would find at Axiom.xxx?
I mean, aside from my better material?

Wow, someone else already grabbed it, eh? I just did an nslookup, having more restraint than the rest of you.

When "X" was born, at the beginning of the film rating board, all of the other letters stood for words, G, GP, R. I wonder why they chose "X"? It's been around for >3k years, so what gives?

It used to be a stand-in for "Christ," as in "Xmas."

If they referred to them as "adult" films, then they would get an "A" rating, but that would imply that they are "excellent." "P" was an obvious choice, but not all "X" is "P." If it were "A," but the film were hard-core "P," then it could get a triple "A" rating, but that would suggest that you HAD to see it, or that porn was getting into the bond market.

It could have been "HP," for "Hard-Core Porn." or "pr0n," as some would have it. Then Hewlett/Packard would have gone all legal all over Ventura, CA. I would have chosen ".hcp."

It's not fair. How "X" went from tic-tac-toe to
do-that-ho, I will never know! (There's a more appropriate rhyme for "tic," but Amie's proabably asleep, so I didn't.)

I think you would've just made George Carlin proud.

This got me curious. Several variations of the company I work for are already existing as a .xxx . Since I'm at work at the moment, I didn't dare try them as URLs or I'd likely be flagged by all our big brother systems if they happen to go somewhere, shall we say, unexpected.

That's how the monthly "membership" fees appear on Andrew's statement: "Unexpected."

Sharon: WTF? Andrew! How'd we spend $943.00 this month on this "Unexpected" thing? And WTF IS Unexpected?!?
