I noticed a member's signature was a line from Bungie's Marathon series. A precursor to Halo. The "lost" true precursor to Halo is a game called Oni. I didn't play either. I played Myth: The Fallen Lords and Myth 2: Soulblighter, both ugh hits for Bungie. I was Poet Cowboy on that server and while I was not famous I was somewhat recognized. Bungie started advertising Halo during my Myth 2 days. My original iMac was not going to be able to handle it so I started saving. About a week after I bought a Quicksilver G4 Tower , Bungie was purchased by Microsoft so the XBOX could have Halo. Mac would not be getting it.
Wooooo!
Marathon is available now as open source:

Ken and I both played Marathon and Myth (all versions of each) incessantlyback in college. I was even a member of a guild that had weekly appointments with Myth.
I forget what I called myself, though, or the name of the guild.
I played Oni, too, and enjoyed it well enough.
It was The Forsaken, and you were Asmodean.
Details. I remember details.
Casualty! oh the memories
Now you can blow stuff up!
Myth II is available for Macs, Windows, and Linux. If you still have the original install discs (I do not) you can play the full version. If not, there's a demo version.

Dredging up an old post, here. I just discovered that a internet buddy / professional peer was a Myth player. He was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. His internet gaming buddies just revealed to him that they are getting him a
sword cane with a bust of
Soulblighter on the handle.
