OK, it's been 10 years since I had to do anything in Unix/Linux. Cisco IOS keeps me typing commands more than I want to anyways but I now want to brush up a bit again. So I have Ubunto loaded in VBox just to re familiarize myself, but it's more like starting over considering things have changed so much since the text only world I once knew.

I'm looking for a recommendation on a good web reference to keep with the free theme as per above or a book, if need be. Something a bit more advanced than a "For Dummies" guide but not strictly just a command reference either. I won't be running a server or anything but I'd just like to re-familiarize myself to better have conversations with customers.

Thanks all who can offer suggestions. It's easy to find hundreds of such options via web searches but for some inexplicable reason, I value your opinions here. Well, most everyone's..... snicker.

I run Ubuntu on the servers and my desktop at work. Though I don't think I can be of help with recommendations for guides. I've been using Linux in some form or another since 1994, and pretty much take for granted all the info I've amassed since then.

But if you do have any specific questions I should be able to help.

Like these other mega-geeks, I don't use guides much any more. Just the odd (or frequent depending on project) googling when I need it.

Speaking of Google... I just found this Ubuntu wiki site that looks pretty well-organized.

The GUI is proving pretty intuitive and I've found enough CLI references online to get me by. If I was serious at it I'd probably need a good paper reference but the web seems to have more than enough to meet my modest goal of familiarization.

I have to say, I like it's speed, the GUI and the concept of workspaces. Free Apps are nice too. I'm going to use this as my primary OS for a while at home and see how it goes.
