Levon Helm attended music college at the same time and place as I did. He was already famous. Poor guy. Everyone was so in awe, that no one ever actually spoke to him, not even hello. When he would approach in a corridor, people would smile and give way. I wonder what he thought about it, or if he even noticed? We were all dressed as hobos and he wore really nice clothes. We arrived by public transit, or from the dorms on foot. He was delivered. I also couldn't imagine being the guy who's already at the place of evreyone else's dreams, knowing that 1/4 of the student drummers were monsters. Haven't thought about that in a long, long time.
