i just sold my Hafler 500 amp (class AB) - along with the Hafler 110 preamp - to be replaced with a QSC GX5 (class D) which makes for a total of 2 QSC amps in my HT. the GX5 is half the weight, half the height, has more power, runs very cool, is built like a tank, uses much less electricity and the sound is excellent.

the Hafler was 27 years old and running as new, but i thought it would be better to sell it before some parts would break down with no original replacement parts available, or high repair charges.

The GX5 is a Class H amp, not a Class D amp. Class H is a modified Class AB with about 70% efficiency. Class D amps are 90+% efficient. It looks like a super amp though!

right, class H. :-)

the new amp (QSC GX5) was installed 2 days ago; yesterday morning i ran Audyssey calibration.
same good sound as before, and a HT room that's not quite as warm.

for those interested to have a look, just go to the address in my signature.

My Hafler buyer wanted only the preamp, so i still have the Hafler 500 amp to sell.
For pick up only, as it weighs a lot and i'm in no shape to pack it and send it away.

For info: Gellidius at Yahoo.com

2 variable sensitivity pots on the front (like the pro model).
2 quiet fans.

Power continuous/peak:
8 Ohms: 325/405
4 Ohms: 450/800
2.5 Ohms: ???/1250
