I am not sure what to call it, chorale maybe, but I need some recommendations for some music to listen to while I am winding down at the end of the night. Think music like the elves were singing when Gandalf died. I work second shift usually and go to bed soon after I get home from work. Female voices preferred.

What? That's who it is!

Chris, he's right here and he's going to save you from having to try to relax when somebody's singing and wants you to actually concentrate on the words. I've listened to a lot of relaxing late night music after doing battle with the forces of evil, and any sort of singing is definitely out.

An "adagio" is a passage of slow music, typically peaceful and relaxing, and there are numerous recordings available under the search term "adagios". Here's a nice collection, but I'd especially recommend this Debussy .

Master says show him the way into Mordor, so good Sméagol does, master says so.

Asked and answered, Precious. laugh

Oh good grief. I thought you guys were making fun of me. Extra humiliating because I used to own Enya, In Memory of Trees and another one of hers.

Thanks Johnk I will check those out.

Interesting, the Lament for Gandalf was sung by Elizabeth Fraser, the ex-vocalist of the Cocteau Twins.

It's not foot fetish material.

lampshade,
the first thing that came to my mind when i read your post is:
this guy needs Muzak, it's a professional soporific and it has proven itself for dozens of years in all kinds of environments.

Bose would be superb for that, as muzak does not have low frequencies that we can hear.
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: Late night music. - 09/18/12 03:48 PM
Nor any other frequencies that we would want to hear.
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: Late night music. - 09/18/12 03:50 PM
And in the interest of being more helpful:

What about nature sounds, self-meditation relaxation discs, or simple white noise boxes?

I second John's recommendation for classical music at night to unwind. I often listen to classical (a favorite is Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik)or jazz before retiring for the night.

I have a really nice gentle thunderstorm cd with peeping frogs. But I wanted to try something new.

if you get Galaxie on satellite or cable, try the "nature" channel; the play nature sounds often accompanied by soft music.

I wouldn't be able to relax like that. Not with them staring at me the entire time.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Late night music. - 09/19/12 03:15 AM
You wouldn't like my house, then. If you go out after dusk, you're liable to trip over a peeping frog.

The Neko Case album "Middle Cyclone" has 30 minutes of peeping frogs at the end of it. It's also great music.

The frogs are very realistic sounding. I like to fool guests with it when they go to bed just to see what they say at breakfast.

I had no idea those were peeping frogs at the end of that album.

Never had much frog exposure.

Frog Exposure would be a great name for a band.

Sir Bedevere: What makes you think she's a witch?
Peasant 3: Well, she turned me into a newt!
Sir Bedevere: A newt?
Peasant 3: [meekly after a long pause] ... I got better.
Crowd: [shouts] Burn her anyway
