These have a good rating.

Cookie Monster headphones

I have listened to both and have also listened to several other models of the Shure SRH series. I prefer the voicing on the 840's over the M50's. The M50's bass seems more innacurrate/overbearing and their midrange is lacking when I can compare them to headphones such as the AKG 271. The headfi people LOVE them though. I am in the camp that they are a bit overrated. I prefer the bass on the Shures (and they have tested through 3rd parties they maintain their composure in the bass at high output levels). Try to listen to them both if you can.

They are both similar in comfort. Neither of them are great in that regard and have similar design and features (like how they fold up).

BTW which ever one you get, get the straight cable if you can over the coiled.

I'd get the coiled cable M50s. Love the bass on them.

Ok, so i narrowed it down to 2 choices and get 3 recommendations smile. Cookie Monster headphones it is!

Nah, I heard the share 440s as I bought those for my dad a couple years ago and liked the sound. Thinking about the m50s though as the price and reviews are great.

I think I asked this question a while back (last year ?) and then never made a purchase...

Ok, I'm swayed to the 840s. Any last recommendation for another head phone to consider before I order?

The M50s are really a fantastic set of cans. I'm constantly amazed by how much clean bass they can put out and how good they sound overall. Personally, I prefer coiled cable, since it keeps the (usually ridiculously long) thing out of the way whenI don't need to be 12 feet away from my source.

I haven't listened to these, but they are a rather interesting closed-back.

Another reason for the coiled cable, is that you get a warning before you hit the limit. With a straight cable something has to give suddenly.

This isn't necessarily true as tension is created at the headphone jack as soon as the coil begins to stretch. The cable can pull out before any physical limit. This can't happen with a straight cable. Also, coiled cables when they are not stretched are obviously not equally distributed in weight so when they are dangling are causing wear on the headphone jack. This can cause problems over time.

Have you ever listened to a headphone with the coil constantly stretched? It is an awful experience.

I ended up going with the shure 840s. I may get the m50s too and keep the one that I like most. Thanks!

This might be interesting to some, though it's not exactly scientific or comprehensive.

Still... ::Fist Bumps Ken::
