I first heard about Zamperini from my father many years ago, who is also a WWII veteran.

It wasn't until I read the book "Unbroken", that I realized the extent of his accomplishments. I'm not sure if I could have survived what he went through.

Read the book. Remarkable that he survived. I still can't accept that that Japanese guard got away with it. AAARRRRGGGHHH! mad

Ya, survive a plane wreck at see, 47 days in a lifeboat the size of a bathtub, float across the Pacific to get "rescued" by a psychotic enemy prisoner concentration camp commander... Just amazing.
