I am trying to grow Thai Chili from seeds. I purchased two starter kits which included concentrated peat. You add water to expand the peat and then add your seeds. I found these white "pods" in one of them today. I don't know if it is fungal or insect larvae.

I think it looks like something came along and decided it was a good place to reproduce....

If anyone knows could you please offer advice:

1. Throw them away and avoid trouble.
2. Pick them out and keep going.
3. Other.

They look like eggs of some sort. Pick them out and keep going.

From the pics it doesn't look like fungus. I think it might be snail or slug eggs.

I removed one and examined it. It was sticky and translucent with something black inside. Many were clustered together. Some were deep so I decided to get rid of seeds. I didn't to risk missing some. This kind of stuff freaks my wife out. She might make me get rid of the other trays too. About the only bug she can handle is a lady bug. A wooly bear caterpillar crawling on the ground will stop her dead in her tracks.

*She just got home and I told her.....she is pretty mad. Looks like the end of my indoor seed germination days.

Holy snap! I'd throw it all out. If they shipped from Asia and are eggs, who knows what havoc will ensue. (Ned Flanders scream.)

I was thinking spider egg sacs, but figured I would let more experienced heads prevail first!

he thinks they are snail or slug eggs and advised me to look for one. But, I have already disposed of them. I do feel better knowing it is not a crazy spider.

Mark. What were those things that Kahn used for mind control? I'm sure they hatched out of eggs.

As for those nasties, they could be the beginning of a whole new invasive species. I would call the store, then call the Mass Dept. of Agriculture--------then gak. Grotie!

Great photo of peat pods, BTW. I remember (being told about) them fondly, but now that the dispensaries are about to open, over two years late (I can't believe this, but the first one slated to open in the state in April is less than a mile from my house!), ummm, people I know won't be needing them anymore. They've got extras if you want.

Next time, try to find just seeds. Then, use rockwool cubes soaked in a germination solution. It eliminates the chance of hitch hikers. These are all things that were just told to me that I simply happen to remember. Once again, g-r-o-s-s!

I don't think that throwing them away will actually help. After those photos, all I keep seeing in my head is that screaming dog at the end of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

I personally prefer Shatner yelling KAAAAAAAAAAAHN!!
