Discussed here - of course, the poster is being steered away:

Being an enthusiastic owner of a pair of these beasts, I would like to jump in; however, being 'persona non gratis' there, no way to provide a counter view...

his loss, my gain. I grabbed one of the pine ones, it used to be Ians so I'm going to be like totally cool here now lol. I have HSU, SVS, Polk, EP500 so we shall see how this one compares.

I'd be apprehensive if Ian was the previous owner. In his old age, he doesn't have much hearing left & runs his gear pretty hard. Not many bass notes left in that baby, ha!!

Seriously though, my pair of EP800s from the Refurb Store a couple of years ago have been flawless & have provided immeasurable enjoyment...

BTW - snow on my palm tree this morning.

lol. I actually did consider that....hope he doesn't read this but my bosses at my jobs treated everything like hell so it made me weary. But I'm told new parts are going into it and he says it was well treated.

It'll be well broke in, lol.
I'd like to hear Ians personal system.
Posted By: Ian Re: Refurb Deal - 12/11/16 02:42 PM
My system is currently the following:

LFR1100s
VP180
QS8 x 4
EP800 x 2 (was x 4 and soon to be EP600 x 4)
ADA1500-2 (right LFR)
ADA1500-2 (left LFR)
ADA1500-5 (the rest)

The four EP800s really didn't physically fit in the room, hence the change to four EP600s.

Music is always played in two channel so I wanted the maximum power going to the LFR1100s. Having an ADA1500-2 for each channel gives me 1500 watts of continuous power supply available for each LFR1100 plus the many multiples of this power available in dynamic headroom. It plays really loud and clean smile .

Cheers,

Ian

That would make for a real short interview:

"Why do you have LFR1100s ?" "Because we don't make LFR1300s"

"Why do you have VP180 ?" "Because we don't make a VP200"

"Why do you have EP600s instead of EP800s ?" "Because the ceiling gets in the way when I stack EP800s"

Oh, I didn't know the EP600 had gotten smaller. Same or better performance as before, just in a smaller cabinet?

Andrew did a makeover of all the subs last year. The EP600 is now sealed and about 2/3 the height of the EP800.

exlabdriver: I wonder who steves321 could possibly be??? Hmmm.

...and I have a feeling my future ep800 will definitely be "broken in". Hopefully still has some life in it. Remind me to never buy a house next to IAN.

...but Newf, the house next door belongs to Shania Twain...or was that across the lake...cant remember specifically, wait, I think a few of the 30th anniversary were close to swimming the lake!!

How about this - arrange the EP 600's vertically in a circle around the listening position, then connect the tops with horizontal EP 800's - Subwoofer Stonehenge!
