Well, I got very tempted at some point to use all the rebates to finally put my hands on a pair of mystical M5HPs!
Added them to my cart. Sat on said hands quite a few times... only to free one hand to clear the shopping cart and try to get over the heartbreak...
But then this morning I looked up and started musing... Hm... I don't have a xmas present yet in mind... Hm... Let's see... Hm...
AND THEN I PULLED THE TRIGGER.
Ordered a pair of Boston Cherry M5HP, but with the 21 days option. They will be replacing a pair of M22v2 as my computer speakers. This is going to be AWESOME. It is coupled with my 13-year old EP500. So it is already sounding pretty good. Can't wait... Wait... I just told them I CAN wait... Arrrggh!
Eric, what happened to your audiobytes? Did you blow those puppies up?
A little over-kill to use M5HPs for computer speakers, don't you think?
Yeah. They failed a long time ago.
And NO, it's not an overkill!!
Mine too. But I pulled the amp apart and fixed it. Burled walnut. I still love them.
Those are NICE. Mine were just regular black or charcoal.
I paid extra to have them burled by Algonquin beavers.
Speakers, Where Art Though? :'(
It's only been 7 days, yah?
yeah... I was in denial when I said I could wait 21 days...
"Your Axiom Audio order has shipped"
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
(now I need to clean my desk so I can take pictures tomorrow)
This will be an interesting experiment out in the wild - M5s in a near-field use case.
Indeed. At the exact same position, I had M2v3, M3v2 and now M22v2 (all my my old EP500v2).
So far, the M22v2 have provided the best results.
Funny! Took a "before" picture and wanted to have one of the two M22s without grill... I am so used to the magnetic ones that it took me a moment to understand why the grill was not coming out! And such ugly holes in the speakers!
BTW, Mojo, I also intend to try the M5HP in my other setups just for fun to see them perform against the M100v4 and the M80v2!
Good for you for experimenting, Eric. Venture where others are afraid to tread.
It's as if a veil had been lifted!
very imressive. I would not say it's night and day between the 2, but those M5HP are really good. Turned off the subwoofwer and got still pretty strong and deep bass. Finish also looks great. Now I just have to make a few adjustment to my desk so I can move them just a bit back. This weekend I will hopefully have time to move them around a bit so I can compare.
Definitely a winner move. Those speakers are a game changer in that price range. So after the M2, M3, M22 and now M5HP as computer speaker, I will wait a while and get LFR1100 active speakers as my next computer speakers. I might need higher ceilings though!
Eric, I can't see the photos you posted. Active LFRs are great computer speakers if you sit 14 feet away.
That Boston Cherry looks nice. Can you post some photos showing off the finish?
Yes, there's a ton of bass. Far too much for my rooms except the big one.
Yes, the finish is great.
Was able to take the advantage of being alone in the building to get those M5HP singing! And boy, do they sing loud and clear. I am really happy to have pulled the trigger. Can't find them a single fault. I can't say how much of it is V2-V3 vs V4, but they are definitly the best pair of speaker I have in the house after the M100v4. Managed to compare them to the M80v2. I'm sure the M80v4 must be holding their own against the M5HP especially if you get them HP too. I am starting to consider that during 2021, I might do a version upgrades to HP and v4 versions all around, starting with the VP180.
But regardless of the difference in V2/V4, the M5HP are truly amazing. They're not cheap, cheap, but considering they can last for so long, it is a great investment for someone who wants great audio while not being a financial priority.
They're very good value for the performance and finish. They are as good as they can possibly be without going active. It is a nice finish.
