I've gotten the urge to get back into the garage to build various time wasters...

I have a set of powered studio monitors hooked up to a 22" LCD TV fed from a Google TV as a source. Pretty fun for a garage.

Anywho, the TV developed an issue with its line level out to the montitors and there is a constant buzz. Pretty sure related to the cold. Gets below zero in there sometimes.

If anyone has a TV in their garage with a 1/8" Line out, good vertical off axis viewing (it is on a shelf out of harms way) and tolerant of cold sometimes... Would love to hear about it!

Maybe a computer monitor with HDMI in and 1/8" audio out is the answer? Dont need a tuner.

Like to keep it around 300$ or so. Garage TV so sawdust and general mayhem in area.

Guessing an IPS panel for viewing from everywhere? Michael and Casey are stronger in display stuff. Ideas?

I'd just buy an inexpensive TV my self or look in Craigslist etc ... but I guess it does not hurt to ask here if you don't mind driving a distance to pick it up.


P.S. Personally I'd find a TV very distracting in the shop. Not sure I'd be able to get anything done.

The othe thing you can do on cold days is try blocking the vents on top … the older tv’s generate a good amount of heat … might take a few minutes of warm up time …

Just threw it in their recently. Being able to see song and artist for spotify from afar is pretty great. Thought it would come in handy for watching how to vids while woodworking and for 30 second dance parties when I need to see someone jammin on a saxohphone.

I had a varga girl pinup in my shop from my dad. Miss January 1946. Pretty not too bad!

Coworker had old monitor with audio out. Going to give it a whirl.

I have an older Onk AVR in my office. I use an iPad with this AVR. When I built the house, I ran speaker wires through the home, along with home run Cat 5 cable to install a whole-home audio system. Never did install that system, but I did run wires to the garage as well...... I installed M3 Ceiling speakers there. So now I can play tunes in the garage (which is by default, my woodworking shop). I can't imagine electronic devices, or a TV in this area. Way too much dust from my Jet dust distributions blower.....lol. Although, it would be nice to pull up a YouTube instructional video from time to time. Seems like I need to watch one on using my Dovetail jig, every single friggin time I use it..

I ordered a real dust collector, and hopefully, it works better. I've grown rather tired of dust.

My iPad is my shop display/video/music device of choice. I use it for notes, plans, YouTube how to’s, and music. Speakers don’t really mix well with noisy machines … so, I favor wireless noise canceling headphones … which provide reasonable sound but more importantly ear protection.
