I have never regarded sony as a major player in good audio gear but today I happened to come across some of their newer products. I must say that I didnt expect to find what I did. I don't know about quality, or sound, but these new pieces of gear actually look pretty decent.

Their speakers "SSX30ED, SSX70ED, SSX90ED" look more like B&Ws than anything else, complete with bi-wiring terminals, floor spikes, and those seperate tweeter enclosures.

"For the true Audiophile, the SS-X70ED speaker represents a significant advancement. With their innovative design, materials and exceptional craftsmanship, you’ll enjoy natural sound reproduction that’s warm, rich and vibrant."

"This X-series speaker with high-quality crossover has a unique enclosure design with sloped front surface to eliminate distortion from standing waves."

The Super Audio CD/DVD players also look very interesting, "AVDS500ES and AVDS700ES".

Has anyone had a chance to try out this gear?

They are trying to get into the high end market to compete with Denon and Pioneer Elite with the ES line.

The only place I have seen those speakers are at the Sony Metreon in San Francisco and the Sony Play Museum in Manhattan. They are never hooked up to anything so that they can be listened to.

I have never seen them at a store.

Sony realized that if they put a shiny sticker on a crappy speaker it will sell.
