Well, considering it was posted tomorrow... I'm not.

Good article. Wish/hope the M60s pass WAF...
Too funny...I didn't even realize it was dated for the 15th.
I couldn't find any other reviews on their site. I was hoping for reviews of the whole lineup--there aren't many people 'round here who have done that.

Begin as I'm in speaker limbo until I finish the entertainment center, I've been wondering about/pondering the whole line (other than the M80s--just ain't gonna happen!)

Anyway, back to the thread in progress...
One has to wonder, after reading review after review of the M60s and M80s which says the M60s are easy to position and the M80s very hard, and the equal sound quality,

Has more engineering time been spent on the M60, versus the M80?

What is it about the M80 that makes it tough to position, or is this being over-reported?
Dated on my birthday, hmmm, I wonder if there is any significance to that fact.
I could have sworn that I read something to that effect right here on the Axiom site. Maybe one of Alan's posts.

From the review, "The M80ti was fussier to set up than the M60ti, and needed a lot of adjustment of positions to sound its best with bass-heavy music.".

In my acoustically challenged room (16x16x9, 1 loveseat, no wall hangings, bare hardwood floor, curtains on 2 walls), I can make the exact same claim about the M60s. Every time I move something into or out of the room, I have to adjust my speakers. I'm remodeling, so things are shifting from room to room all the time. Needless to say, the room is very boomy and has lots of echos. I can always find a place to put the speakers so that they sound fantastic again, it just takes moving them a few inches one way or another to get them there.

I'll bet that it is simply the fact that the M80s have more sources of sound waves (even at the same SPL) than the M60s do. The listening environment must now deal with the reflections of sound waves from 12 different "point sources" of sound instead of the 8 that it does with the M60s.

I doubt that it has anything to do with the engineering of the speakers. The reviewer's listening environment might just be more conducive to dealing with the M60s than the M80s.

The reviewer only stated that they were fussy, not impossible. Hehe... maybe he bought female M60s?

ducking...
It's also interesting to note how close he was sitting. Only 8' back. At 8' back, he loved them. They sound even better further back!

I've played around with this...I can easily move my couch forward or back between right on top of the speakers, to as far back as about 14' for so. About 10-12' is my favorite. Of couse that's in my room. I sure it would differ from room to room.
I just set up my M80's two days ago, and here's my take on that.

Yes, they are a tad fussy to set up. The bass was really, really overpowering. I changed the toe in a couple of time and brought them a few inches away from the wall but it was still pretty boomy.

So I set my receiver to play the bass at -2dB, problem solved.

total time to adjust: 10 minutes.
