I've noticed quite a lot of bickering and name calling around here lately.

Quite frankly, it doesn't do me any good. Anonymously berrating each other really does no good on a forum like this. I know that when we get hobbiest/enthusiasts/audiophiles all packed into the same room, with differing backgrounds, ideas and opinions, that we are bound to disagree. But when we begin name calling (called the "ad hominem" fallacy - which is attacking the person instead of his argument, and an invalid means of arguing), the forum degenerates into a worthless pile.

Honestly, it does me no good to open up the internet and come to the chat rooms, find 25 unread posts abotu topics that I think that I haev interest in, only to find out that you knuckleheads ("ad hominem" fallacy) have been ridiculing each other all weekend.

Please, I suggest that we all do one of two things:
(1) Let people have their opinion, graciously disagree, and move on with the post topic.

or

(2) Start a new thread, entitled "I hate your opinion" or something catchy like that, and berrate each other on your own time.

I like to keep up with what is said around here. Mostly, because I dont' have opinions, since I am so new at this, and still learning. When I have to wade through pages of off-topic posts, it is a waste of all of our time.

So, please, b*tch at each other on your own time. Privately IM one another if you have this unquenchable desire to fight. But keep it out of otherwise helpful and legitimate posts, for all of our sakes.

Sorry for the rant.

Oh, and I welcome any disagreement/agreement that you may have on this matter, as this, to me, woudl be a good place (OFF TOPIC, that is) to have it at each other.

So much for "let it begin with me."

Capn, I do agree with you. Many topics are subject to differing opinions and how those opinions are discussed is up to the individuals but there will inevitably be some conflict which is usally controlled by forum moderators. There is no daily moderator watching the Axiom forums so unilke some other forums, posts and ugly threads may not be cancelled as quickly. Axiom also has a loose policy regarding post content and anything other than outright name calling or swearing is left alone. However, this includes those aggravating, subtle insults at one's character, profession or even at the intelligence level of the forum ppl in general. Most of the time the Axiom forums are mellow until someone takes a swipe at someone else in a subtle but still insulting manner.

I've been on these forums for two years now and i have come to know one constantly insulting individual and it should come as no surprise to many. 2x6spds has a recurring slant on posting inflammatory statements and subtle insults for over a year now, not every day, but often enough. It is very easy to dig up PLENTY of posts where he has purposely tried to aggravate another individual. He has a personal vendetta to post anything spiteful against me in particular (noted here for example) which is something that others like AdamP88 have obviously picked up on.

The 2x6 arguments go wayyyy back (see here AND here for examples) and have since been pretty steady in these forums, usually every other month or so. If you haven't noticed, at the present time 2x6 is in THREE conversations in THREE separate threads (thread one insult, thread two insult, thread three argument) arguing and annoying people. If you have been around the forums long enough, you come to know who drives the most notable inflammatory situations. When you look further back and note how many times someone has to lower themselves to the level of actual name calling, take a look at the instigator and count how many times this has happened with the same person (2x6spds) involved.
Many others have had disagreements on these forums before and few are completely innocent of that, but 2x6spds goes beyond having a 'few' arguments and personally i've read enough of his attitude to fill a lifetime.
There are four examples now listed with four separate individuals who have all had arguments with 2x6spds with THREE in the past week alone! People that have talked with him and not yet been scorned by him can post contradiction to this, but historical posts easily prove who the #1 aggravator is on the Axiom forum.
Remove that individual and you will see the forums clear up dramatically.
Send a PM to Amie about it and if she gets enough, she may take action against the person.
I agree that i've seen enough arguing as well. It is time to resolve it with the forum moderator permanently.

Bren, I don't think Cap'n Pickard used the term "knucklehead" as an insult, but rather as an admonition for folks not to take themselves too seriously here. Just my take on it.

I find 2x6spds to be the most entertaining poster here. I'd hate to see this place turn into allcablesoundthesame.com... variety is fun. If you don't want to argue with him, then don't argue with him. Even if he insults you.

Bren - that was intended as a bit of sarcasm, and only a joke, intendedly tipped off by my own acknowledgement of the use of the ad hominem fallacy... Oh, and laying "head in hands" does nto make you a knucklehead, for the record...

And about keeping the forums light, interesting, etc., I'm all for it. But only when it doesn't get in the way of informative discourse.

And hopefully, getting us all talking about it will cool some embers around here, as there seems to be some personal disagreements that have existed over time which I was not aware of until today.

Cap'n Pickard

Let a thousand flowers bloom. Can't we respect dissenting opinions here and all just get along?

Personally, I think the insurance companies have done a wonderful job conditioning the public consciousness to view lawyers with disrespect. Folks revile lawyers until they need one, and then if they're lucky, they'll get one to whom they can turn in times of trouble.

Our system of civil and tort law puts a monetary value on injuries. Many folks think that value is too high when someone else is injured, and almost universally believe it to be too low when it comes to their injuries.

Our system is imperfect, but it beats the heck out of the alternatives. The legal system provides a fair process if not always a fair outcome - far better than solving disputes by picking up sticks and AK47s.

So, Cap'n Pickard, keep up the good work, after all, like the good judge in Alabama has noted, our system is based on a few venerable tenets, thou shall not steal, thou shall not kill, thou shall not bear false witness, and for those of you who have drooled over the pictures of my Mapleshade Clearview Double Golden Helix Plus speaker wires, thou shall not covet.

there lies the problem.. the 'system' is more imperfect, than perfect. and the common man has lost all hope in the ability of the justice system, on all levels, to provide a "fair process". and as far as "not always a fair outcome", thats a joke. OJ goes free, Jayson Williams essentially gets off, and a woman gets 10 million dollars for spilling coffee on herself??

jurors are held to a confusing mess of legal terms and judicial ramblings, that its almost impossible for them to decifer what matters.. THE EVIDENCE..

i am sure pickard is just a regular guy, i got no probs with him.. but the american judicial system, IT SUCKS..

Ah yes John, but it sucks less than most!! Don't like it? Move to China for a while. I'm sure you'll have a whole new appreciation for it then.

I've got to stay mostly out of this one... the fiancee is a lawyer, all I can say is from what I've seen - like every other segment of the population - there are good and bad. The problem is it seems that the most deceitful end up in the highest ranks.

bren makes a good point.. its only the high profile cases that make the news.. but when you hear about those, you gotta wonder, "what the hell were those people thinkin?"

real80- i love america, but i dont necessarily love everything about it. i will stay right here, but thanks for asking!!

I have two lawyer friends - nice people both. They do good things for people and for the public interest as well.
But I also have experience with lawyers in my workplace. They routinely bilk the school districts in soCal out of millions by using federal law (I.D.E.A.) to sue the districts. "Dolphin therapy" is one of the latest tacts of these scumbags...
I'm sure our resident lawyers are fine and wonderful people.

"dolphin therapy" you lost me there?

Posted By: BigWill Re: OT - Who cares... - 05/05/04 07:33 PM
"Dolphin therapy" = school district pays for little Johnny to go swim with dolphins. Supposedly it benefits autistic children somehow. Failure to provide such services when necessary (as determined by student's lawyers and other experts) results in litigation. Even when stuff doesn't go to court, the lawyers make bank by billing the district for their hours. "Horse therapy" is another one. What's next? Monkey therapy?

i've been involved in alcohol therapy as prescribed by my ever rising and falling urge to strangle co-workers.

Monkey therapy has its limitations, Big Will. Gotta watch out that the monkeys don't involve the kids in a monkey sh*t fight. Does tend to bring the kids out of their shells but screaming.

It appears these urchins have already had monkey therapy then.

Along these OT lines - shouldn't single people get tax paid sex therapy? That's the least the gov should do since we don't qualify for the breeder deduction. :0
