I already own a gamecube, but am very disappointed with the game selection.
1. Witch system has the best game selection?
2. Witch system has the best surround sound games?

ps2 has BY FAR, the best game selection. and its surround sounds very good.. i think the graphics on the xbox are a little better, but thats not saying that the ps2 is bad.. the xbox has the ability to put games in its harddrive if that is something you might be interested in.

if you are really interested, then you might wanna wait til the ps3 comes out in the spring of 2005.. the ps2 games will still play on it, and the graphics are supposed to be much improved.

Ditto

The best thing to do is to look at which one has the games you really want to play. The xbox has slightly better graphics, but not enough better (imho) to choose it over the PS2. The Xbox comes with a NIC, but you cannot play online with it without getting the M$ service ($50.00 a year I think). However, from what I have heard/read the online gaming experience with the XBOX is (for the most part) more stable and less fraught with cheating.

You could also do what I did. Get both! Sound on both is the same. Some games have surround. Most do not.

Yeah the PS2 has by far the larger selection of games. I have an Xbox though and I like it. The only thing I hate about the PS2 is the dinky little controllers. They have carpel tunnel syndrome written all over them.

Do you like on-line games? Because Xbox Live really does rock, and it just keeps getting better.

I bought my son a PS2, due to the larger pool of games. The age segment extends to a larger audience with PS2, something that might not matter to you, but my son is in the pre-teen group.

Also, having spent my career in Hi-Tech and IT, I do not like to fund the MS monopoly. But that was not my major reason, the games my son wanted overrode all else! It really is about the kids, and less about me I have found!

X-Box has a more gamer "fair" online play system. PS has a more developer "fair" online play system. I will explain...
XBox you pay $50 a year for online service, and any online playable game available for XBox is then fair game for you to play online. PS is a different story altogether. Sony provides no servers to development teams, so if a company wants to make it's game online playable, it has to set up its own servers. Thus the gamer pays a variable monthly cost for each game that they want to play online on PS. The result, is if you'd like to play a number of games online, which most gamers tend to want, the XBox system is cheaper and more consistent in online experience.

Overall, PS2 might have a better game selection but it doesn't have (in my opinion) the "X" factor. HALO, this game is the reason you buy a game system. And when Halo 2 comes out I will probably not do any homework for an entire week so I can master it. Halo is alot more fun playing in system link play and H2 is gonna be Live ready.

xbox has the ability to do HD gaming using an HD pack they sell. It is supposed to look absolutely unbelievable. Also, a good amount of XBox games also have great 5.1 surround sound support.

Xbox 2 is supposed to come before PS3 which is supposed to come in may.
