I've searched for related threads, and we had one back in December. But I really need some help, particularly from anyone who uses EAC. I've got plenty of storage, so comprehension is not as important as quality.

So I know I want to use a LAME encoder based ripping program, and I think I like EAC over CDex, but the use of presets has me all confused, as do the differences in how these are employed by the various versions of LAME.

Speaking of lame, I'm not usually this lame, but all of the digital audio sites/forums (e.g. Hydrogenaudio)
I've been to seem to assume a level of understanding beyond where I am now. ARRGGHHHH!

Appreciate the kind assistance, either direct help or pointing me to sites or reference material. Thanks!

This (arstechnica.com) could help. It's an intersting article that at least should help you get off the ground floor, as it were.
I am actually using CDex with the latest version of LAME. I just swapped LAME DLL's.

IMO....CDex is just easier to use.
Thanks guys. But did I really write "comprehension" instead of "compression" ?!?! Geez, obviously comprehension had *nothing* to do with it! Better be awake next time I post. Too bad that I couldn't go back and edit. Oh well.

Anyhow, the version of EAC I downloaded didn't seem any more complex than CDex. But I'm still confused about how to get high quality ripping with at least some compression, and hopefully decent speed. I've got a 250Gb external HDD, and over 500 CDs to rip.

I just wish I could find a "definitive" source/answer on how best to set this up using the same versions of the programs I've got.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Rich
