The sensitivity ratings of all models seem to have recently changed on the website...what happened? Are the new models less efficient than they were, or are they just tested differently?

I was pretty sure the frequency response ranges also changed recently.
Perhaps Ian has an answer.

i think they changed because the new ones reveal the true efficiency ratings.. for the past month or so, on this board, there was a lot of talk (and i admit, i often brought it up) about the speakers not being as efficient as they were claiming.

I would like Ian to comment on this one.
Why did all the specs just change recently?
New analysis methods? New testing procedure?

I've noticed that the subs are now rated for a lower frequency response than before. The EP350 'looks' more favourable now since it was previously rated at a low of 30hz and is now 25hz.
This isn't a change for marketing strategy is it?

I have wanted to get all the specifications redone for quite awhile now to a more accurate and up to date level. We have not done a complete re-measure of the specs on every model since the original samples of the Millennia Ti series before we went into production so we could get the brochure printed. This time we took our in room sensitivity measurements on a per octave basis in 4 different environments and then averaged the information. I think this is a more accurate way to do it then just pink noise in one environment. We also developed a -9 db spec for the amplitude response to give everyone a view to the kind of roll off in the bass each model has. I felt this was important because the real world feeling of low frequency is greatly affected by how steep or gradual the roll off is. In particular answer to the sub-woofer question we actually made significant improvements to the subs about a year ago and this is reflected in the new specs.

I would agree that averaging values would produce a more real world, accurate value of course depending on how large the deviation between those values may be.
I am impressed at the 'improvement' on the subs. I wasn't so sure about the EP350 before, being able to hit a low 20hz note with any measurable level of volume, but now...i simply gotta give it a try.

What i would really like to see added to the website, and maybe i will post another thread on this, is a single page perhaps showing a 'tour' of the testing facilities and a general explanation of the specs or how they are measured. It would be very helpful not only for ppl new to reading the specs but may also allow for some critique of the measuring methodology. One never knows when someone out there will have a good idea on improving the measuring protocol.

While you're at it, frequency response curves would also be nice to see.

A lab tour would be a great idea. We want to also put together a factory tour for the site.
