PM BigWill. He recently sold some M60s and was happy with what he got for them.

good luck and sorry your thinking about parting ways with your Axioms. Actually, this is against forum rules I believe, probably why it took so long for someone to respond.

This is always a good question. I don't think there is a hard and fast answer, but going with a non-auction format, i would probably start at around 30% off original price. If someone were to buy used vs new, the savings have to be significant to warrant a used purchase to overcome the benefits of new. For example, with Axioms, shipping is free. Buying used, the buyer pays for shipping. This is one example of a 'used' cost addition buyers incur and hence think about before making an offer.
I have a friend who doesn't buy anything used unless it is 35% or LESS than its original price. Mind you, he tends to collect more vintage items and have been known to go as high as 50% of original cost.

The other consideration is brand name (and age of the unit). In this finicky audio world, many hold certain brand names in such high regard that they hold their value quite well. Bryston is an example of such a company. Krell another.
I've notice from sales of Axioms on the used sites that they don't do too badly. However, as stated previously, any unit with only 20% off or less barely matches the price of a Factory Outlet sale from Axiom.
On the plus side, if you put up an ad on Audiogon for the speakers at 30% off, do this twice, and it doesn't sell, you can always put out another ad with a lower price. It is not like ebay where you pay for every ad entry through the nose. If you peruse some of the 'high end' name speakers (e.g. Tannoy), you will find some supposedly amazing deals. Speakers that originally sold for 24k could be going for as little as 11 thousand!!

If you want to try out a Cdn ad site, i suggest Canuck Audio Mart. You may find selling a Cdn speaker a bit easier there as more ppl might be familiar with the Axiom name.

You SURE you want to sell them? I wish I had kept my M60s - I didn't really need the cash from the sale, but I know that one day I'll need to buy some speakers for some reason. It just doesn't make sense to sell good stuff unless you need the $.
That being said, we shouldn't be too sensitive about people selling their Axioms. They're good speakers; I thoroughly enjoyed my M60s for two years. I received so much pleasure from them that I decided to spend even more cash in search of perfect speakers.
BTW, rcvecc, what are you replacing them with?

its not in stone yet that im selling them, also im not selling them because i dont like them either, they sound awesome, and are still incredible bang for the buck....i just like to switch up every once and a while,if i do change my system i will get either the klipsch reference7 system or i am considering the thx ultra 2 7.2 system and a sherbourn pre/pro combo.i do love my axioms, but like most people around here,i like to change from time to time.its a disease and we all have it..i hope it never goes away

I don't envy you your disease. If/when you get around to moving on to another kind of speaker, you should so everything possible to do an in-home comparison between your Axioms and the new contenders. A good A/B comparison will remove practically all doubts from your mind as to which speaker you like better.

i actually had the rf7s along with paradigm studio 100s all in my home at one time,i would have posted about it but i type so damn slow and have a hard time putting my thoughts into text i didnt bother, let me just say in short,i did like the m80s over the 100s

Funny how different people have different opinions I personally like the Axiom 60's-80's sound over the Klipsch RF35 through RF7 speakers. Horns just aren't as accurate to simulate how the artist would sound. Don't get me wrong, they sound good, and are good for head banger music

I just sold my black M60s today on ebay for $561 plus shipping (about $640 total). That's 62% or 71% of original price depending on how you look at it. I am very pleased!

If you do plan to change or upgrade in the future or don't want to build an inventory of audio equipment, resale value is an important consideration.

One person's loss is another happy person's gain. Envy the one who just got Axioms at 2/3 the cost.

On ebay I saw m22tis being sold, so I put a max bid of around $375 on them.

It still didn't meet the reserve. Nobody tried to outbid me for a while(probably all moved onto other auctions).

He tried to resell them. For the hell of it I put the same bid.. still didn't meet reserve. He emailed me asking if I wanted them anyway, and that he would do me a favor and give them to me at that price. I laughed and said with shipping they'd be more used from some random ebay person than factory outlet from Axiom.

Make it sensible. If you're selling on ebay, a good idea would be a reserve that is 50% of the speaker's price, start it at $0, make it a long(say two week) auction. This way you'll get what people think it's worth but without getting too screwed.

There is no loss. Each side wins. That's the beauty of it. Unless of course, one is selling under duress.
