Well, my bride and I spent the last week moving to our new home 40 paces from the 5th tee at the club where I am a member. It will also serve as our retirement home.

It's been a week since I was hooked to the internet and/or able to get the time to get on line. Lotsa stuff on the Axiom board (and a new "Water Cooler" name).

During the course of the week, I was able to mount a 42" Panasonic plasma (TH-42PWD7UY) and hook 2 front/center speakers to it. Pure heaven. BTW - the Panny is a Copmmercial model that got exceptionally good marks from users in my research. The PQ is stunning. No speakers or tuner, so it was surprisingly inexpensive. Highly recommended.

We are still buried with boxes to unload, but we can eat, drink cold beer, get on the internet, sleep, shower and watch TV. Hopefully I can play some golf soon as well. I'll bore you with some pictures when the chaos is removed.

Congrats on the new digs. Nothing like being able to walk out on the course in the evening to sharpen the game.

I hope those who are early morning golfers won't be waking you up with their curses, or the occasional shot sliced through your bedroom window.

Will you be starting each round on the 5th hole now, and just skipping the first four?. Now THAT will sure lower your score. No need to tell anybody it was only for 14 holes.

Missed you, my friend.

good to hear from you again ray.. hope the move continues to go smooth. and its sure nice to be right on the course like that.

my wife's biological father used to live in the Waterwood Estates, on Lake Livingston. his backyard, literally, was just a few paces off the #11 green. when we would go visit him, we used to sit out on the edge of the sand trap every afternoon with a cold beer, and watch people tee off towards this par 3 green. good times!!!

and hell ya, we need some pics. show us the new domicile.

And you're a quick drag away from your final resting place as a bunker left of the 8th green.

Learned of a great benefit this morning at 6:45 AM. My wife came in to the bedroom and said "They start pretty early." I asked what she meant and she told me they where mowing the tee. I didn't believe her and she raised the blinds (I can see the tee from the bed ).

A guy was riding a sizeable mower and I couldn't hear a thing. VERY pleased about that. My beauty sleep is very important (and mostly ineffective ).

I have been pleasantly surprised about the golf traffic as well. Except for weekend mornings from 8-11 and Wednesday from 3-7 (men's day), the place is pretty much deserted. Kind of like having a big honkin' park in the back yard.

To each their own... my place backs onto field #2 of a soccer complex. Usually if I'm in the garage and hear a lot of cheering and whistles and very little jabber between players, I recognize that it's a higher level game and it's worth watching.

The amount of on-field chatter is inversely proportional to the level of play exhibited by the players. This I have learned.

Though sometimes watching the E-division teams provides some entertainment. Aggression is also inversely tied to skill level. Alpha males with no "touch" which only serves to frustrate them more.

Do you have cart privileges from your home or clubhouse only? It's nice to be able to roll out of the garage in the coolest parts of the day. Maybe you're a walker?

I didn’t realize how much I missed being on the board on a daily basis.

Jack, I’ll start at the first hole for the regular golfing, but the 14 hole score is tempting. . I have found out that there are 17 members on the street and most of them have riding carts. At 7:30 most evenings, after the other members have stopped for the evening some of them tee off #5 and play the “loop” (5, 6, 7, and then drop down to 4 to come back). Much fun is being had and I plan to join in.

bigjohn - thanks my friend. I can sit on my deck and watch #5 being played (it’s a par three). I’m going out on a limb here and predicting I might have the occasional beer (or several) while engaging in this activity.

Mark - I look forward to hearing from you, it’s been way too long.

Pete/Randy - unfortunately it way too often is more like five or six. That’s why Jack’s idea of a 14 hole round is appealing.

Bren - I remember Bugs’ cartoon argument. That frightens me.

Doug - I have had a Kangaroo Products 3-wheel electric motor caddy, with a remote, for 7 years (recognition gift from my boss) and I can walk without having to carry a heavy bag. I’d like to think that I would continue to do that. However, the appeal of a riding cart from my garage to the course through my back yard is pretty strong. I would pay a trail fee (but then cancel my locker & club storage at the clubhouse), but it would be major convenient. Most of the cart owners also have headlights, so there is a relatively good chance of making it home when it is dark and tipsy out.

Between the great house and being on the course, you might be picking up the fact that I am pretty pleased with all of this.

Dear Ray,

Congratulations and warmest wishes for many happy years in your new home.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt on both the "hooked up" and "mounted" parts of your message.

It's a gimme that YOU'RE pleased - what about Mrs. Ray3? You know, I totally buy-in to that "happy wife, happy life" thing.

I'll look forward to the ongoing story in words and pictures of your new life. Thanks for sharing your joy with the rest of us.

Walking is better for you anyway even if not carrying the bag.

With a cart you really have to watch out for water hazards on those late night drives home from the clubhouse.
