Yes. I went out and bought it. Well, actually, I purchased it through amazon.

Years back, when I was 9 and visiting my brother while he was stationed in Austin, TX, I listened to Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. Man, I was both scared and fascinated at the same time. Sadly, I did not know how to care for vinyl records and proceeded to scratch the album, much to the disappointment of my brother. So when I read that is was to be re-released in SACD format, I went on-line and ordered 2 copies.

Mine arrived yesterday afternoon and I immediately put it on. Wow! The mix on this one is truly awesome and adds much more depth than the original. Richard Burton's voice is ever more captivating and Forever Autumn comes across beautifully. Sitting in the sweet-spot with my eyes closed gave me the feeling of being a part of the production.

I called my brother and boy could you hear the quiver in his voice. Took a long time to repay him for my novice mistake but I think he has forgiven me.

If you have listened to the original and enjoyed it, I strongly recommend adding this one to your collection. The clarity is amazing, making me appreciate even more the abilities of Axiom speakers.

Hey I know this is an old post but i just picked this SACD(Jeff Waynes' musical version of War of the Worlds, Richard Burton narrates the story) from Amazon myself. I first heard this is the late 70's when it was released. Very cool to hear it again in surround sound. I can't believe nobody else replied to this post, surely there must be someone on these forums that has heard and appreciated this album before.

Geez, I thought this was lost forever. I didn't recognize Jeff Waynes and had always thought of this as a Justin Hayward production...

I'm gonna have to go SACD hunting. I lent out the vinyl and never got it back. "Forever Autumn" is still stuck in my head 30 years later... I was humming it when I saw this post.

Thanks !!

"Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way
You always loved this time of year.
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
'Cause you're not here "

EDIT - Oh great. On amazon.ca the regular CD is 40.99 and the SACD is 28.99. That has to be a screwup... now which one do I order ? The one that says SACD but I know will be a regular CD, or the one that says regular CD which I'm sure will turn out to be... a regular CD ?

Time to go kick some bricks & mortar I think.

John,

I hope you and the family find someplace to ride this out far from the danger zone. You can always replace the tunes. OOPS, I posted this in the wrong thread. DUH!

Lorenzo, I was beginning to think I was the only throughback out here. Although the music does date itself I still enjoy listening to it half cranked. There's a lot of richness to this production and the lfes are cool. But through it all, Richard Burton's voice can't be beat.

Bridgeman:

I couldn't find it in any stores so Amazon seemed to be the best bet. I ordered mine from the US site just to be sure. They shipped it to their Canadian warehouse and then sent it to me so no extra charges for duty, taxes, etc.

DonJuan:

I agree some of the synth stuff sounds a little dated but it still sounds great in 5.1 and I have always loved this recording. Hmmm, I wonder if I could find a way to copy the regular cd mix for the car ???
