Hi, I've been lurking for a while and thought that I would properly introduce myself. I'm a Canadian sailor on loan to the USN for the next 3 years. Working in Washington has been an eye opening experience for this small town Canuck. I am looking at purchasing a solid HT system while I am down here. Interestingly enough, it is actually cheaper for me to buy Axioms while I am in the US, once you take into account 15% in additional taxes that our Federal and Provincial coffers like to take.

I think that I am at the point of asking a forum member who lives in the DC area if I can impose on him/her for a listen. I guess it's over to the hearing things lookup.

Anyway, I am looking forward to the next 3 years of exile before returning to my home in Victoria, BC.

And for those who didn't think Canada had a Navy...check this out; you are not the only one...http://www.satirewire.com/news/feb02/warship.shtml

Cheers,
Rob

Americans must be short on talented Officers (joke here is, Canada has the highest officer:noncom ratio in the world).

Just GST on Axiom purchases, since they're out-of-province for you.

My ex-auto instructor was a white-hat... all 5' 7" of the little French fireplug was hardened by the rocks and shoals. May I suggest you don't get the india ink "sailor girl" tattoo, though... by the time you hit 55, she looks like a sasquatch.

Good luck down there, we'll keep Victoria moderate and rainy for you.

RobtheSailor,

I'm in D.C. (Dupont Circle) with a set of M60s, QS8s and a VP100 run through a Yamaha RX-V750 and incorporating a Hsu sub.

You're welcome to have a listen. PM me if you're interested.

Lest we offend our American friends, you should explain that Victoria is quite possibly the loveliest place in Canada, and that *anywhere* would be exile! {giggles}

Thank you all for the wonderful welcomes.

I have to agree with Amie, Victoria is a very beautiful city. Unlike the rest of Canada, Victoria does not really experience Winter. Annual snowfall is measured in hours. i.e. "It snowed for 6hrs this year". So, I do not own a Toque (wool hat), 'ski-doo' boots, nor a Parka. If I want to ski during the Winter, I drive up island to Mt. Washington or take the Ferry to Whistler/Blackcoomb in Vancouver. In order to rub the temperate climate into the faces of other Canadians, each February - while much of the country lingers in snow storms, we count all the blooms/blossoms in our gardens and on the fruit trees (Apple, cherry, etc) and announce this count to the rest of our nation.

Note: yes it rains alot in Victoria - but significantly less than either Seattle or Vancouver due to the geography.

Washington is a very nice city, and my girls are learning all about 4 separate and distinct seasons. We truly do appreciate the welcome that we have received by everyone that we have met in the US and look forward to the next 3 years.

For Capn_P - PM sent.

Cheers,
Rob

Welcome to the other North American country. I have a cousin who just moved to Victoria (form California) and he loves it up there.

I'll be in the DC area by the end of the year with my M22s and VP100, so if you haven't made up your mind by then, you'll be welcome to come over for an audition.

Wouldn't that be the other other North American country? After all, there is Mexico...

Yes, true. I tend to (incorrectly) categorize Mexico as Central America.

i know this is way OT but every time I see the thread title, it reminds of Austin Powers.

"Allow myself to...introduce...myself."

You're too old when you're dead.

"Did they ever find out what caused his death?"

"He was too old."
