My son told me a couple of days ago that our local (one and only) Ford dealership here in town got hold of a Ford GT so today we had to go take a peak.

What an absolute gorgeous automobile! The dealer 'won' this particular white with blue striped car, 1 of 1500 made for '05 in a lottery type drawing. They took delivery 3 weeks ago, the owner and the specific trained service person are the only persons on this end who have sat in it, $20,000 deposit to test drive the car with '0' miles (hand pushed from the hauler) and for a mere $187,000 this car can be bought. I know, there's many foreign exotic sports car running around but for an all-American muscle car...this is certainly one beautiful ride.

Needless to say, I didn't take it for a spin!

Either car will fit in my garage just fine, even though I personally think the GT would look 'better'.

I also priced out an '06 F250 Crew Cab diesel ...

I had bought a '69 Mustang Mach 1 back in '68 strictly on the basis of the photo they had in the magazine ad. It looked longer and lower than the actual vehicle(yeah, it was obviously distorted, but it didn't matter). What with the stripes and scoops and spoilers it looked almost like a.....

I took these pictures of a Ford GT at CES last year:

When I was a kid, I had a large-scale slot racetrack that was based on Ford GT40s.
How cool would it be to own the closest real thing to your favorite "dream car" when you were eight?

I'm waiting for the 07 mustang, Shelby GT 500. Target price of 40K.

The Z06 is next to impossibly to get.

Mike the dealer also had a black '06 Saleen Mustang on the showroom floor that in my mind is probably the best 'retro' car ever to ever come out, man what a sweet ride. The price on the Mustang was in the low 50s.

There's another black Saleen Mustang running around town that I've been drooling over for the past couple of months. The thing looks downright 'racy'.

Both are beautiful cars, but in my case, they might as well retail for a million samolians.

joking . . .or not

I hear you there Bruce!

I agree. It is insufficiently cheap to warrant serious consideration.

While I really loved my pretty Red 69 Mustang Mach 1; the car that I almost wish I still had was my "Mustang for Grown-ups" My dear ol' Black 89 Lincoln Mark VII, with(honest to God)chrome Cragar rims and slightly over-sized tires that extended somewhat beyond the wheel wells. It was an agressive looking ride that was emenently comfortable!!

The poor dear aged even less gracrfully than I did

Love the GT. Saw it a the car show last year. Our local deal er has one, not sure why it hasn't sold. I'd much rather have that as my nod to supercars and old school pony cars. Silicon Valley has too many Ferraris and Lambos to be unique...

I like the Saleens too, but that’s an aftermarket option and I don’t think it’ll have the collectability that the GT 500 will. They are very nice though, at least the twin turbo ones are. The GT 500 will have the GT engine with slightly lower compression and between 450-500 hp. The GT is 550 hp. Shelby is chin deep in its design, so I’m sure it’ll be a dandy of a ride.

The big Ford dealer in Alaska has a red GT in the showroom. They are giving it away on a super-duper sales event at the end of the year. I don’t think I’ll win it….

I’ve got a straight, rust free 61 stingray sitting in a barn in Montana waiting for time, money and motivation. It’s lacking the drive train, but that’s OK. I have plans to build a stainless steel frame and retrofit a C-5 donor suspension under it. I’ll drop in the 7.0 ltr Z06 crate motor that GMPP is selling as of this month for 14K and a six speed. well, at least that’s the plan……..right after the basement is done. this might end up being my son’s project at this rate.
