The roads are chock full and the folks are wanting to get there in a hurry, not a good mix.

We've already lost a mutual friend day before yesterday whenever a woman driving with her three kids, ages 11, 6 and 4 from their home in Okeechobee, FL to Orlando for a flight to Indiana veered into the oncoming lane of a two lane highway and hit our friend head on, killing the woman, her children and our friend. Sad, sad, sad...especially whenever the state trooper talked about the wrapped Christmas presents scattered about.

Fortunately one person, a passenger in the truck with our friend did survive and he said there wasn't a thing our friend could have done, she veered just that quick.

State troopers said the lady was holding either a pen or a pencil so we can only assume. Man that's tough.

Be safe everybody.

Sorry to hear, Rick.

There's a lot of them out there. We had a wedding to go to last night (she was marrying a guy from Northern England, so incorporating a prairie social and Christmas into the deal for his family sounded like a good idea) and I'm really glad I didn't have a drop to drink before driving, I needed all my faculties about me to avoid the crazies.

Keep your windows clear, keep checking those mirrors and hover over the brake if need be.

BTW, the bride's brother was killed in a head-on about 2 years on his way home during a break from his time as a piper for the Prime Minister.

Sorry to hear that Rick, my thoughts and prayers will be with you over Christmas. Sunday we are heading up to my wife's family, it will be a sad one this year as her younger brother was killed in a car accident a few months ago. Hang in there buddy...

Man Rick that's some really sad news. I drive a dump truck for a living and am amazed at some of the stupid things people do while driving. More than a few times I have had to do some pretty serious evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting people. You have to stay alert during the holiday seasons for your own sake and the people around you. In my opinion driving under the influence should be automatic jail time.
