Apparently this scumbag is taking another crack at the Preseidency in 2008:

Bad idea for the DNC, IMO.

Trying to restart the politics thread, are we?

Let's just not and say we did...
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 09:01 PM
LOL.
I was hoping some of the newer members might be interested in discussions relevant to our democracy.
Kind of a lot of happenings on the Canadian political scene as well.

Don't worry, by the time 2008 rolls around he will flip flop on his idea.

Ah, this sort of enlightened discussion...
Posted By: AdamP88 Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 10:02 PM
While I agree that it's bad news for the DNC if Kerry does run again, I can't help but wonder what kind of discussion you want to get into if you start out by calling Kerry a scumbag.

Wow. If that above sentence were about speakers, you would instantly be dismissed as a troll. It's just a wee bit inflammatory, isn't it?
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 10:08 PM
LOL again!
Don't trip, Ken, I feel the same when I read Maureen Dowd, Molly Ivins, and that uber-pansy from the NY Times (Koether, Koetter?). Not to mention the letters to the editor in the local paper!
I live in a Republican dominated area, but most of the letters to the paper are from left-wing nut jobs. Makes sense, I suppose - all the righties are at work with no time to lounge around writing letters to the editor waxing about how things ought to be.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 10:12 PM
Yup, that's an educated, informed discussion all right. In debate class, I guess they always teach you to insult your opponents right off; it gives you more leverage. Or something.
Posted By: AdamP88 Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 10:25 PM
So is this supposed to be a discussion or an opportunity for you to insult the left?
Posted By: craigsub Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 10:56 PM
Tic... Tic ...Tic... Tic
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 11:21 PM
Perhaps I demonstrated a lack of patience.

Kerry would be a very poor choice as the Democratic candidate. He couldn't beat Bush despite having every advantage in the world (glibness in the debates, media backing, unpopular war, etc...). What chance would he have against someone like McCain?

Assuming the country is ready for a female pres, Hillary would have a better chance of winning tahn Kerry. I'm guessing the country is not ready for a female pres, despite Hollywood's best efforts vis-a-vis that dumb TV show.

Bill Richardson is their only shot, IMO. But he ain't a communist so...
Posted By: craigsub Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 11:38 PM
BW2 ... that last sentence (you know, the commie part) can get you into trouble arounnd here ...
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/02/06 11:54 PM
See, it was almost a rational, well thought out post. Until the commie bit. Can we have a political discussion without insults and wild exaggeration (from all sides)? Judging from this thread and the past, I don't think so.

Besides, your arguments against Kerry could also apply to McCain, who I hope will run again. And I do happen to agree with your initial premise, sans name calling.

Yeah I gotta go with the majority here... that was pretty uncalled for.

At least the horses ass that is in there now won't be able to do any more damage.

I reckon the name calling (like calling a Senator a scumbag - or a President a liar, tyrant, evil dictator, etc...) is not appropriate or enlightening. It never seems to be an issue nowadays, though. I believe we just chock it up to partisanship - the country is deeply divided, y'know.

I'm only in my thirties, but I don't remember every seeing the country so divided over politics. I would like to see Democratic and Republican politicians do a better job of working together.

The relationship that George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton have developed as they raised money for disaster relief has been awe inspiring. Together, they have achieved great things, probably more than they would have acheived alone.

Granted, raising money for the tsunami and hurricane relief is a cause that both parties can agree on (unlike the War in Iraq). However, the fact that both are working together, while putting aside there political differences and bitter feelings from their election, makes me hopeful that maybe the US government can work in a similar fashion.

We tend to forget how volatile things have been in the past. For example, That little skirmish in the 1860's was pretty ugly. The 60's were no picnic.

As a conservative, I watched Bill Clinton get elected in 1992. The economy grew. Things were good.

George Bush gets elected in 2000.
The economy is growing. Things are good.

They were already doing that before Clinton or Bush ...

I tend to agree with Craig here. I am the most cynical person you will find regarding politics, however I tend to think idealistically that a person who runs for president generally runs believing they can make postive change regardless of their political background.

I voted for Bush senior in 92, voted for Clinton in '96, Bush dos in 2000, Kerry last year. Why - because I come to my own conclusions (or maybe I just like waffling every 4 years) - i am not a psychophant driven by partisan ideals - I don't try to make snap judgments of people based on their political party.

In ought-8, I think it would be great if McCain ran. I think it would be great if Barak Obama ran for the Dems. Both are PEOPLE who I think have quasi-similar outlooks, but both see the presidency as a service first type position.

I think that scenario will happen when pigs fly, but as with all threads involving politics we've already devolved into name calling from both sides - yippeee!!!

Can we instead start an Axiom based platform with 7.1 surround rights for all and yet protect the minority stereo only users?

If Kerry is running and Bush can't run, who do the Republicans nominate? Maybe Cheney's pacemaker? His speeches would be really boring, but he(it) wouldn't miss a beat at the inaugural ball(s).

Please welcome guest poster, Senator John Kerry. Everything below this line will be his own words, and I in no way endorse anything he will say. Take it away Mr. Kerry!

Thank you for allowing me to use your account, Peter. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all my past and present supporters. I could not have stayed the course and reported for duty without you all. I'd also like to thank Mark Williams for his honest, if harsh, criticism. Freedom of speech is something I hold dear and encourage every citizen to take full advantage of it. In this spirit, I do have one question I'd like to ask Mark. Does your glibness increase in direct proportion with your gut, or is it just a coincidence?
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/03/06 03:49 PM
Whoah, man. Senator Kerry must really not like being called a scumbag!
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/03/06 04:38 PM
Hahaha, very funny, though that was a little personal wasn't it?
Fortunately I have an excellent self-concept (and my wine and golf weight-loss regimen is working well ).

Didn't feel like undertaking a substantive discussion, pmb?

I'm disappointed.

I suppose I will console myself by playing this local course today:

Awww, come on. You know I only did that because I knew you could shrug it off in style, which you have done. As to substantive political discussions, you know where that has lead to in the past. No thanks.

Speaking of politics, did anyone else receive something in the mail called The American Community Survey, from the US Census Bureau. It says on the envelope that my response is required by law. There are some questions in the survey that I would describe as more than nosy. I think Big Brother might be spying one me. I purchased foreign made speakers, does that make me a threat?
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/04/06 01:17 AM
I don't think the next census is until 2010, right?
If so, then that mail is likely bogus.
Posted By: tomtuttle Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/04/06 01:29 AM
Regrettably, it is apparently NOT bogus.

Scary Census Bureau stuff.
Posted By: RickF Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/04/06 02:26 AM
Scary indeedy Mr. Tomtuttle! Last year during the middle of our home remodel some guy with a Census Bureau badge showed up at the door for a 'survey' and asked various questions regarding all sorts of personal matter...income, kids in college, works status and yada, yada.

This 'survey' was a once a month call survey for a four month period, for followups on the initial personal visit. We couldn't believe it, every month the guy called he had our information completely wrong and out of whack from the previous month...almost to the point of us wondering whether this guy was even sane.

Went through that nonsense and low and behold if the same guy didn't call back last month, yeppers, December of '05 and tell me that this was a 'year followup' to see if things had changed. ARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!! "Man we went through this stuff last year?!" "Yes sir I know, didn't we inform you that there would be another four month survey a year after the first four month survey was finished?" Oh jeeesus.

I'll be darned if the first five minutes of the survey was me telling him that "No, I've never been an Engineer and we only have one child...didn't I tell you that four times last year?" "Oh, you did?!?"

He assured me that this will be the last four month survey I'll ever have to do for the rest of my life. We'll see.

And yes the guy was legit, a full fledged census bureau employee.

Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Good News For You Republicans! - 01/04/06 04:59 PM
I don't think so.

Not in the sense this has been twisted to refer to it anyway. I don't know though...if it isn't done properly there could be such a thing.
