I just downloaded a nifty plug-in for After Effects called Nucleo. It's not an effect, it's for rendering on multi-proc computers. Quite impressive! My render times have literally been cut in half.

It's fun to kick off a render and watch the cpu temp go up, the fans start blowing harder and get my render in half the time.

Before Nucleo a render only used about 25% of my cpu's capacity. With Nucleo, it pegs it and gets the dang job done! Seems silly to have all that cpu power going to waste.

btw...when I say the cpu temp rised I don't mean drastically. Here at work our AE box idles at about 37 degrees. Full on 100% usage bumps it up to 51/52 degrees. Once the render is done it drops back to 37 really rather quickly.

If you don't use After Effect just ignore all that drivel above.

I used it in the late 90s when I was really into computer animation. Great piece of software and very powerful. I'm sure it's even better now. When I was in college -- anthropology major -- I was considering a career in CG at one point. I took a coupel semesters of a computer animation class and had a really good time. A few of my classmates are working at ILM now.

But back to the topic, it's always nice to hear your computer chugging along. I wish all programs had the option of using all available resources.
