Happy Birthday to our very own St_PatGuy!

May you have warm words on a cold evening,
a full moon on a dark night,
and the road downhill all the way to your door.

If you can't get a nice, fresh stout today, go ahead and have one of those canned Guinnesses with the nitrogen widget thingy.

I was in Boston once for St. Patrick's Day. I did not know whether to be comforted or alarmed when I saw ~50 motorcycle officers near Faneuil Hall. Crazy.

Stay safe, everyone. And avoid the green beer.

ditto, happy b-day Mr. Sean.

Aw, shucks! I'm blushing. Thanks Tom and Randy!

When I was a kid my sister used to make me green pancakes with chocolate chips on my birthday. It looked nasty but tasted good.

Tonight I'm heading out to a concert to see the Poxy Boggards. A fun mix of drinking and revelry. And no, I'm not driving!

I'll join in...HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEAN! So, are you going to tell us how old you are (without using binary) ?

Right. That explains the name, then.

Happy Birthday, Sean!

After the Boggards have Poxied out, I hope someone's got a decent grip on at least one of their sheets to get you home safely.

Thank you everyone! Today I'm turning the big three-one. I don't feel old, but yesterday when I got my hair cut I saw a lot of gray falling on the little apron thingy I was wearing. Ho hum.

HA!HA! Every time my birthday comes around, I notice gray hair that just "suddenly appears"! Obviously, it's always been there, but I never look for it until my birthday. It's a good thing I continuously color my hair now!

But deciding on a favorite hobby is a tough call...

Hmmm...audio or women?

Posted By: Wid Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/18/06 07:20 PM

I've been married for nearly 25 years so audio it is
Posted By: F107plus5 Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/18/06 07:24 PM
I've been married nearly 39 years, so audio is part hobby...

.....and part ESCAPE!!

My kids are two and four, Audio is not only a hobby but a method of drowning out the noise.
Posted By: littleb Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/18/06 08:30 PM
I've been married 26 years. Audio used to be really important to me. Nudge, nudge, , .
Posted By: F107plus5 Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/18/06 08:40 PM
Hmmmmm.......

....to sum it all up and put it in perspective:

I've been married nearly 39 years, AND we're raising four grandkids ages 5, 8, 10 and 12.

Audio falls somewhere ABOVE the level of a simple "gateway drug"!!

Posted By: F107plus5 Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/18/06 09:14 PM
An addendum:

To further "feed the need"(using the "gateway drug analogy")I've been visiting another audio forum(blasphemy!!)to find a better way to use audio as a way to escape!

Axioms are, by many accounts, a more foreward and perhaps br....br....um, you know, sound.

Grado earphones are considered somewhat bright and foreward sounding in relation to the average set of "cans"

I prefer the Axiom " M3" style of sound: more relaxed and less intense.

"M3" is to Axiom as "Alessandro" is to Grado.

Never heard anyone say anything bad about M3s, never heard anyone say anything bad about(Grado built)Alessandros.

So the hope is, when my new MS1s get here early next week, that the sound of the earphones will closely match the general sonic signature of my M50s and M3s.

.......without the evil room inducing distortions of fireplace and furnishings!!

Now I'll just have to learn to judge what the kids are asking by body language alone, before I either nod, or shake my head in responce.

CUZ I WON'T BE ABLE TO HEAR THEM!! HAAAR HAAAR HAAAR!!!
Posted By: St_PatGuy Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/18/06 09:27 PM
I haven't heard of the Alessandro line. Just checked it out on the web. Let us know what you think. I'm only familiar with Senns and have never had the opportunity to try Grados.
Posted By: F107plus5 Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/18/06 10:21 PM
Alessandro is a builder of guitar amps and speaker cabinets who markets a line of Grado earphones to help fill out his total product offerings, and were originally aimed more towards the professional music market. The "Alessandros'" are made by Grado to more closely approximate the old(analylitical) "Joseph" Grado sound rather than the newer (lively, "fun")"John" Grado house signiature sound.

I'll be hearing them myself for the first time when they get here(just like my Axioms)too, so I'm anxious to take a listen. They're only sold on line, so....

Fingers crossed and nose to the front window glass!

I've got the Grado SR125 Prestige Series, Imho one of the best headphones I've ever heard.
Posted By: F107plus5 Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/18/06 10:53 PM
Yup, my guess is that the M80s are closer to the SR125s while the MS1s are more similar to the M3s.

Ain't choice great!!??

I have the Grado 125 P also. I love them. Though an "audiophile" friend claims they are brighter and more forward than his Sen's. "Sauzitch his own." Enjoy your Allesandro's I'm sure they'll be great if they are made by Grado.

Posted By: F107plus5 Re: Happy Day, Sean! - 03/19/06 12:54 PM
I really envy you guys who have the Grado 125s and enjoy them! I have never even heard ANY Grados, and here I go buying a set!!

To make it all the worse; I have no idea of when they may even get to my house!

To get the Alessandro version of Grados you almost have to join an exclusive club consisting of those who "sit and wait".

Seems that "Alessandro" is a very small organization; maybe only two or three folks, who may as likely be out jammin' at a gig as back home runnin' the business. So shipping times can run anywhere from three days to three weeks, or longer!!

It is universally considered to be worth the wait however by those who have purchased them.....or so I'm told.

I ordered them last weekend. This has been(is)a long, long weekend.

I had spent a couple weeks researching on various forums, actually. The "Head-fi" forum is a fun place; lots of good stuff. It appears that Grado is the closest thing to Axiom M2 thru M80s in over-all presentation, so that's cool; while the Grado/Alessandros are more akin to the M3 sound.

I can't, hovever, recommend that anyone go visit the Head-fi web site.

They give two pieces of sage advice.

"Buy your headphones, leave the forum and never return"

Or...

"Sorry about your wallet"

These guys(and gals)are true "Fanatics"

Lower priced Grados and Alessandros are openly called "Gateway Drugs"

It's scarry!!

Don't go there!

In my misspent youth you might say I dabbled in the "gateway". I never felt compellled to move on to bigger and better(?) things. Same thing goes for my Grado's. I am extremely satisfied. I would also say you are correct about the tonal match. They are very similar to listening to my 60's. Don't be scared!

So, is this better than a recycled Birthday Card, or what?

Just wanted to get the jump on the big festivities tomorrow, Sean. I don't always frequent the boards on weekends, so wanted to make sure I got a chance to send timely good wishes your way. It's like the perfect alcohol storm - Birthday, St. Patrick's Day, Saturday. When would you like your wakeup call on Sunday?

I hope your day is happy, and that the coming year is full of blessings.

So Sean - just to try and "re-hijack" the thread - Habby B-Day! They seem to come faster each year.

What a resurrection of a thread! Thank you, Tom and Ray, for the pre-birthday wishes. Took the day off today. Just came back from running all my errands, and now I've got some serious time-wasting to catch up on. Couch, here I come!

Oh, and Tom, about that wake-up call on Sunday morning. . .I will find out where you live. . .

Well, DUH! What difference does it make. Have a very happy birthday, Sean.

Yeah Sean, we're a bit early this year, but possibly the fear was that as St. Patrick's Day went on you wouldn't even remember your name, much less your birthday. Happy Birthday!

Everyone, thank you! Had a nice relaxing evening with the family. Enjoyed a fine traditional Irish dinner of. . .tacos. Hey, it was my choice and that's what I wanted. I tired of the whole corned beef and cabbage thing years ago. Although it was a small family gathering, nine of us, we crammed four generations around the dinner table--the oldest being my grandmother at ninety, and the youngest being my niece at eighteen months. A truly enjoyable evening.

No hangover this morning, but I do have a stiff back. Is this what aging is all about? If so, I don't want anymore birthdays. . .

Well, off to go count the gray hairs.

I may be awhile. . .
