In general, I NEVER buy extended warranties, and I would pass on an extended warranty on an AVR.
HOWEVER! Having had 3 service calls on my first HDTV, and after reading the threads and comments regarding others' experiences with all the new TV technologies (LCD, DLP, LCoS, Plasma), each of which seems to have its own particular set of growing problems, I think adding an extended warranty to a $3000 purchase which has parts that cost $1500 to $2000 to repair or replace, is a prudent move. I added a 5 year RepairMaster EW (which actually only adds 4 years to the manufacturers warranty) to my new Samsung DLP HDTV for an extra $200 at TVAuthority which is where I purchased the HDTV.

Our RepairMasterâ„¢ Extended Service Plans may be purchased for items you bought elsewhere, as long as these items are still under the original manufacturer's warranty.

Like most things on the internet, I've heard both good and bad about these warranties. If you think you'd be interested in one, DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE PURCHASING!
