I just read this new article on Audioholics:

Audioholics on Location #3: Axiom Audio

It's nice to see news on the upcoming Axiom Audio multichannel amplifier. 8 channels is a lot, as is $3500-$4000. I think I'll end up having to stick to my original plan of two or three monoblocks, as I want my spending money to go to a Rives Audio consultation (followed hopefully by a decent implementation) next year, but the purported performance of this new amplifier sounds promising.

Is anyone here planning on getting it? It seems like a lot of people here consider receiver power enough, or only provide the mains and sometimes the center with more beefy amplification.

I'm convinced that room acoustics are the biggest thorn in the side of my ear at the moment, but I'm sure I'll become more curious about the other aspects of my system once I have a good listening room.

Too many things I want, and such a miniature wallet to do it with. It almost makes me want to look into harder but more financially rewarding work.

There's another post on this in the Water Cooler, with the requisite discussion on OMG how expensive it is.

I don't think anyone here will tell you "receiver power is all we will ever need or want", just that "receiver power sounds pretty good for now and we can always add a big-ass amplifier later"

The other point, I guess, is that speakers and room acoustics are going to have more impact on listening enjoyment than the electronics, at least until you get into larger rooms where you really need the extra power, so we are all going to tend to spend money there first.

Ahh, I didn't even see the existing thread. Maybe because I wasn't looking? Ignorance is the worst kind of blindness.

What a kickass amp! There is nothing like having huge reserves of clean power available for those watt hungry transients you get from huge explosions or mountains moving. I've always felt the amps in the EP subs were one of their strongest features and its logical for Ian and Tom to build on that great amp design. All that cool running linear power also sets the stage to drive bigger output low impedance speakers with all their inherent advantages.

Pricey? Not for amps of this quality. I think the good folks at Bryston in Peterborough just had a wake up call.
