I am considering purchasing this sub to complement my home theatre. I currently have:

M22Ti
VP150
QS4
EP125

I have been unhappy with the EP125 in movies.

Has anyone used this sub in comparison to these others I am considering buying:

SVS
HSU
Velodyne

I have been told SVS are the best but I am concerned about their intrusive appearance in my living room. I have, on the other hand, been very concerned with Paradigm's reputation for having very bad customer service.

Let me know your thoughts!

Thank you.

Velodyne, HSU, SVS and Adire are all very good sub woofer brands for the $$ limited buyer. However that being said, some of these brands also have higher priced items in their selections which can make you just drool.
I would consider them first over Paradigm subs.

This is true

I have also been considering buying an Adire driver and building my own sub. However, I am not much of a handyman, and I do not feel I can properly build a subwoofer cabinet. If I can purchase a high quality one already made, and find proper instructions on what to do from then on, I can finish it up without difficulties. I have a friend who does soldering for his job, and he can help me with that.

Do you know where I could find a ready-made cabinet that is high enough quality to match with an Adire driver?

i have a vmps large, my best friend has a svs 16-46,and a guy he works with has a hsu-3.
we had a little thing a while back with all the subs .
over the course of the night everyone thought the vmps was the best sounding for music @ht( nothing negative about the others- they sounded very good also)
the finish on the hsu looks different in person than from the pics- still nice.
waf-vmps( none of the girls liked the svs)
the vmps has 2 speakers not one like the others(stereo)
all cost about the same( my sub was a kit with cabinet-1 hour to assemble- easy)
also the vmps doesnt come with a amp- you supply, a 100 watt per channel amp will rock your house.

i use mine with a pair of michaura m55s(almost a clone of the m22 axiom)it works seemless.
basicly you cant go wrong with any one of the above, but if you dont ever want to upgrade again-vmps large.

download the boston audio woofer cooker from winmx- 4 minutes of hell on your sub, its awsome.

Just go to this message board:
http://www.harmonicdiscord.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=41
and check for answers. If you can't find an answer in this Adire speaker forum, just post a message and Dan Wiggins (CEO of Adire) will most likely respond. He hangs out there and is quite knowledgeable.

Good luck!

Hi Patchwork,

Adire makes two ready-made subs that might meet your needs. The Dharman, a Shiva-based ported subwoofer, is better suited for home theater while the Rava, a Shiva-based sealed sub, is "ideally suited to integration in audiophile systems." You can check both of these subs out at AdireAudio.com.

If you want to try out another Adire driver or perhaps one from Stryke Audio, Acoustic Visions sells both finished and kit subwoofers at a fair price. I'd check it out if either the Dharman or the Rava/Rava SE is not to your liking.

The customer service I've received so far from both Dan Wiggins and Kyle Richardson has been excellent. When they're not on business trips, they both respond to any of my questions in a timely manner.

After my research, VMPS is looking very good right now. SVS might be too intrusive in my room, but it is second. Velodyne and HSU are out of my price range for the performance I am looking for. Adire, well, I don't really feel like assembling my own sub if I can buy one ready made, however I am still looking carefully at their already made subs.

VMPS subs come with two subs and play in stereo. Will this still work even though my receiver has only one mono pre amp sub out?

only the vmps large has 2 speakers the other vmps ones have one.you can wire the large in stereo at 8 ohms( 2 channel) or single at 4 ohms( hook the two together).
if you want to save some cash get the large kit with cabinet and use 2 vmps crossovers and the power of your mains till you can afford a amp.(passive)
you can get a %discount from dealers so dont go by the price list at vmps.
pm me if you want my dealers name and number, if you talk to him he can answer everything for you.
good luck
ps - if you live in a apartment dont get the large unless you want out of your lease - lol

Don't rule out the other Axiom subs. The EP175 and EP350 would be worthy options too. Not only do they play deeper and louder than the EP125 but there's a step up in overall fidelity and detail. They would also match the clarity of the M22TiSe and VP150Se better too.
I still have my heart set on a pair of EP350 if ever I'm rich
