Do I need an FMS CC? - Axiom Message Boards

Below is a picture of my projection screen. The frame is 19.75 inches from the floor and soon I'll be buying a VP150. Originally I was planning on setting the speaker on the floor, but now Axiom has the FMS CC. The seating posiition is about 14.5 feet away from the screen. Would I get any real benefit from using the stand? I don't want the speaker to be too close to the screen, and since the VP150 is 7.5 inches high, I'm thinking that if I bought a stand, it would be no more than 10 inches high.

If your screen is 19.75" off the floor, then unless your planning on raising the screen, I don't see how this will work. The stand is 16" tall, plus 7.5" for the speaker gives you 23.5".

Also, are you planning on getting Axiom left/right's some day? You really want your speakers to be matched for best sound?

Axiom will customize the height of the FMS CC for you. The standard height is 16 inches, but when you place your order you can select almost any desired height.

And, yes, on February 19th I'll be placing an order for an Epic 60/500 system.

Normally you want your center tweeters and left/right main tweeters at the same level. However, this is not always possible. It appears in your setup you may have been restricted by your ceiling height, which required you to have your screen to low. Usually, when your in the seated position, your eyes should be 1/3 or 1/6th of the screen height, up from the bottom. Which is normally puts the screen about 38" to 41" off the ground.

Another option is to mount the center above the screen, angled downward which some have done with success. Good luck and looking good...

I would recommend the stand, so that your center is just below the screen (as high as possible without causing a problem with the image). My VP150 is partially within the frame/border area of the screen, just below the image.

You want to use a stand for 2 reasons... 1) to get the center closer to the level of your ears, and 2) to have it off the floor to help reduce direct sound reflections from the floor.

You may want to consider moving your main Left and Right speakers a little further from the wall too, so that less of the sound you are hearing is reflected off of the walls.

Nice job on the room, and I'm sure it sounds great now, and even better once you get everything tweaked into place.

Believe it or not, but the screen is infact at the correct height--our eye level at 1/3 the screen height. The ceiling you see is actually fabric panels which hide the speaker cables and ugly white popcorn ceiling.

The 1/3rd rule is not actually what everyone follows, many articles have been written to the contrary. Anyway, for my situation, with a 2nd row on a riser, those people follow between 1/3rd - 1/6th and the first row follows bottom of the screen. Works best for reclining situations.

I've seen pictures of your set-up--it's one of my favorites. The colours you choose inspired my palette somewhat.

Thanks, I just upgraded to Ebony color over the Mansfield Beech, works much better for HT applications. Need to get some pictures updated when I get time.
