I had a visitor last weekend from beautiful Canada who checked out some hd-dvd's with me on my XBOX 360 HD-DVD device with my Denon AVR-2807 and 3 Outlaw M2200's. He was so impressed that he paid me retail price for all of them and put them in his trunk when he went back home. He's a relative.

Anyhow, now I have all this money and a dream..... So I venture out and find a 4306 in Silver. It should arrive today. Got a great deal on it too. $600 below retail price....its a like new unit so we should be ok. I will report back later.

Anyone have any advice?

Lucky guy. My advice would be, since he's a relative, offer him back the part of the money that you don't spend replacing what he bought off you. It's only fair, right?

Well I offered to discount them when he picked them up...but NO BEANS. He paid me what I paid for everything...since it was all pretty new anyway.

4306 ROCKS!!!!

3806 and 4306 users at AVS are reporting issues with them being about to play nice with 6 and 7 channel lossless PCM. It is a firmware issue and they have been told by Denon that they need to send their units back to Denon to get the firmware updated. Users of the 2807 are not reporting problems. Actually, the 2807 seams to be the best AVR on the market right now for playing well with HDMI audio off the BR / HD dvd players.

I think you should stick with what you have. The 4306 doesn't have much of a leg up on the 2807. You have to go to the 4806 to get much as far as SQ components go.

Too late....I am now a 4306 owner and I dont see anything about firmware. I do know that denon usa offers firmware downloads from their website...so I am hoping that if there is an issue they will allow us to do it ourselves. I have not noticed the problem myself just yet...but I am not running hd-dvd or blu-ray through hdmi. I will be soon and report back then.

Well I got a copy of the firmware and plan to install next week. It is confirmed to allow 7.1 PCM over HDMI and faster and better use of the internet radio feature. You can install over LAN but you will lose all settings.I need to take a few hours and write them all down.

I too got this firmware and loaded it. It did not erase my settings but it did give me some updates. Internet radio is much faster and more efficient. I have also heard that the ps3 7.1 pcm is working.

Thats very good to know.

I'm thinking of purchasing the 4306 to go along with my Ps3, can anyone confirm that the pcm 7.1 is working through HDMI as well as the ability to play SACD.

The firmware I have does support Multichannel input via Linear PCM over HDMI.

The firmware on my 4306 does infact support 7.1 linear pcm from the ps3 over HDMI.

Thanks, that was strange

I finally went over the edge, made my 4306 go into shutdown mode. I was playing Metallica S&M at about +10.0 in DD5.1 . I just wanted to see how far I could push it,my speakers sounded great. I guess I will set the vol. level back to 0.0 for the limit.

Hey jimmie,

That's what protection circuits are for. But be careful: AV receivers like the Denons do not have unlimited amounts of power into low impedances like the M80 towers.

And if the protection circuitry didn't shut it down immediately (which it apparently did), there's a chance a severely clipped signal might fry one of your drivers.

Regards,

I find it odd that it would go into protection in the first place. You might want to check your connections.

I don't find all that odd. I had a 300 watt power amp go into protect mode once while really hammering it.

I'm not going to do it again, I had a few beers and was having to much fun. I have the limit set to 0.0 now and thats where I keep it most of the time and have never had an issue. At 0.0 its loud but not that loud.
Posted By: michael_d Re: Lady Luck and my Denon 4306 - 02/21/07 02:23 AM
I had the Marantz at max volume for just under an hour and had no problems whatsoever in full DD PL IIx mode with an SACD thumping right along. I've also pinned my 1080 without issue.

I think if you ask Richard, he'll say the same. So maybe you need to check you's out too Rick.

Not possible Mike, there's not to much in setting up a two channel system. That was a few years ago when I had a set of Bose 901s. I have not had this happen with the Rotel and M80s.
