Hi -- I am new to the Axiom family and just ordered a Epic Master 350, but I was wondering if I should have upgraded the M3s to M22s? These are speakers that I will use in future rooms and with future electronics so my real question is which of these two front speakers is better matched with the rest of the speakers.

Thanks in advance,

Chuck.

they all match eachother because they all use the same tweeters and are made by Axiom. The only difference is the M3 uses a 6.5" woofer while the VP series uses a 5.25".

If you have the budget for the M22s as mains I would go for that, they can player louder and have more of a clear mid-range than the M3s.

A good place to start is to post your room dimensions and current/planned equipment and your intended use (like 80% movies vs. 20% music or vice-versa).

I suppose a simple answer is that the M22ti and the VP100 both use the same 5.25" drivers whereas the M3ti uses a 6.5" driver. All 3 use the same tweeter. This means that the M22ti might be a closer sonic match. Also, the '22 is a little more transparent in the lower midrange, whereas the '3 has a little "nudge" in that area, just slight. I love it personally (I own both: 22's for my HT and 3's in my office).

The room is approximately 15' x 15' with cathedral ceilings, stairs in the the rear and an open right side that leads to the dining room. I am upgrading an Onkyo HT-770 HTIB with an Onkyo DV-CP703 and TW 8300 HD Cable Box and a Panasonic 42" plasma.

So I'm starting with the speakers because they are the weakest link. I'd like to get a new receiver next month and am looking at Onkyo and Denon -- suggestions?

I listen to 95% HT because the music sounds pretty bad with the HT-770 speakers.

What is a "nudge?"

If I were you, I would upgrade to the M22s, you won't regret it.

That is a pretty big room. M22s would be a good upgrade.

In that size of room I would go with the 22s. By "nudge" I mean that the M3 is a little "forward" in the lower midrange, making the sound pretty "fat." It sounds great to me. The 22s are very transparent and their frequency chart is as they say pretty much "ruler flat." When paired with a well-placed and calibrated sub they blend in very well and "disappear."
