I want to set up a home theatre system in the living room 400 sq ft. I am thinking Yamaha HTR6090 7.1 as receiver. Will M60, VP150, EP350, QS8 works? Do I need a bookself speaker or another QS? How different are axiom compare to jbl, polk audio speakers? I never purchase Axiom.

Welcome tigger!

First let me point out that there is no need to double post. We tend to read every post.

Your Axiom choices sound good. If you have the funds or can use the outlet for the discount maybe an EP500 sub instead of the 350.

Axiom sells on line so you get a great speaker with quality components without the middle man.

Search for forums for the speakers you mentioned and you will find post comparing them to Axioms.

By all means look in the Hearing Things section for a user near you for an audition, but the best audition is in you home with the 30 day guarantee.

Welcome Tigger,

Most solid state receivers will have no problem driving Axiom speakers, they are very efficient and easy to drive. Many Axiom owners use Yamaha as their receiver.

What are the dimensions of your room, I know you said 400 sq ft, but dimensions will help.

The speakers you listed would be just fine. The Q series surrounds will do a much better job for surround effects during movies. They also do a great job for music, in my opinion.

Some people like to use bookshelf speakers for the rear channels, but I use 4 Qs8's all the way around.

In my opinion, Axiom speakers would be classified as an audiophile grade of speaker. To me, JBL and Polk are more of a "retail" chain store type of speaker. Axiom really is in a better league.

I use a Yamaha RX-V659 with M22 mains (8ohm, the M60s are 8ohm as well) and I have no problems at high volumes. I think the 6090 is at least an equivalent to the RX-V659, mabey newer/better.

Thanks for the suggestions. The dimension of the living room is about 3200 cu. ft. (20'x20'x8'). EP 350 is within my badget, although I like to buy EP 500.

The 500 is in a whole different league than the 350. I might even suggest that getting the M22s and the EP500 would be better.

Edit: Or buy the 60s now with no sub and save up for the 500.

I can attest to the fact that having M22s paired with an EP500 crossed over at 80hz calibrated to 75db leaves NOTHING to be desired.

My system has everything that I could ever want right now. The only reason I would consider upgrading would be because of a bigger room.

If you can get the 500? Yes!

But the M60s have plenty of bass to tide you over until you get the funds for a EP500.

Tigger,

What will you use the system for, more home theatre? or more music listening?

If its primarily for Home Theatre, I would go with the M22 route with the EP500, see how you like it, and if you want to upgrade it to the M60s, Axiom has been known to pay for return shipping of speakers if you are upgrading.

I will use more for more music + karoke than movie. I usually watch movie thru cable box rather than dvd. Will the center speaker replaced the two bookself M3?

I would go with the M60s then.

I noticed you had the bookshelf M3 as the center speaker. Since I am consider BP150. I guess I don't need bookshelf M3.

Ahhh,

the Dual Bookshelf M3s were primarily for dispersion of the centre channel to above and below the screen, to get the dialog fixed to the centre of the screen.

I like having 2 bookshelf models as a centre channel. The VP150 is designed to be a centre channel.

IF you have room, a vertical single M22 would be a great centre channel matched with the M60s. It has been said a vertical orientated speaker has a wider dispersion of sound (ala JohnK).

I agree that M60s for music are the best choice even with no sub.
