I was originally going to get Mirage OMD-5s for my speakers but just found axiom and wanted to give it a shot. What I was thinking about for our familiy room is the Epic Grand Master line from Axiom. Below is an image of our family room and where speaker 'ports' are located. ARGH! CORNERS!! The ports are about 7ft high too. I think the rears are okay and far enough to the left and right for surrounds which is good. However, look at where I'll be putting my TV vs the speakers?! CORNERS. So I was thinking of taking the M22's and putting them on full metal brackets and angling them towards the listening area/center of room.

Now the center... The darn Center port is also 7ft high! Crazy huh? I'll probably lower it so it's above the tv and drop the speaker wire behind the tv. Unless you think I can mount it up high also and just have it pointed down too. What do you guys think?

Bio, welcome. What's a "port"? The general idea is that the main speakers should be separated by about the same distance as the listeners are from them.
In addition, if it is possible, you will get better results if your center and left/right speakers are as close to seated ear level as possible.

I also was going to ask what your referring to as a "port"?
I'm guessing "port" refers to a built-in recess in the wall where a speaker (or decorative object for display) can be placed. I'm a big fan of using those recesses for decorative objects and putting the speakers where they sound best.

If you get too much pushback just arrange to have downlights installed in the "ports" -- nobody with a decorating eye can resist putting pretty things in a lighted wall recess. There is a proper foo-foo name for these things but I can't remember what it is.

If they are true ports (open at the back into another room) I would be concerned about putting speakers in them -- although they might be good for an "infinite baffle" arrangement.

EDIT -- seems like they are wiring ports, not speaker recesses. Ignore this post

Yeah those ports are for speaker wire - There's conduit behind the drywall which leads to some opening by the TV and receiver. When not in use, there's just this plate there. I was also thinking of doing those same m22s with the stands but now sure if they look good/bad in a room. Of course, things on the wall and 'out of the way' seem like a good idea... But I don't know. those of you with floor stands for bookshelves or even towers, does it make the room look 'cluttered'?

Everyone has different taste when it comes to decorating a room. Your room size and what other items you have in a room with determine if you can use floorstanding or bookshelf w/stands. Not to mention if your significant other will let you.

Maybe check out the Wall of Fame to get ideas on how things would look.
