Music/HT is 50/50. I am considering everything from M3, M22, M40, and M50(moving the 40s to rear). I will be going with a SVS 25-31Pci sub. My question is, which of the speaker I listed would match up best with my 40's? Room size not a factor...any would fill it. Thanks for any info.
They aren't rears in a 5.1 setup, they're surrounds. If you look at the specs, the surround speakers are intended to simulate the side speaker array in a movie theater. As such, they belong next to you, not behind you.

You don't find speakers in the rear position until you move up to DTS 6.1 or several of the proprietary 7.1 processing setups.

Any particular reason you prefer direct to diffused sound fields for the surrounds? Multi directional sides do a better job of replicating the 8 speakers typical found to your side in a theater.

Now, if you're planning on doing DVD-Audio, that's another matter as I believe that music is recorded with identical speakers in front and behind in mind.

Yes, I am interested in DVD-A...and with at least half my emphasis on music, I'd just rather have direct. QS series does not intrest me.
How ya doing Dixie Dawg,
I'm with you on this one. I have a 5.1 system with M60s up front and do about 50 music and 50 HT. I tried the QS8s for about a week and for me their just was not enough punch, so back they went. Don't get me wrong they did sound good but just not my cup of tea. They where replaced with a pair of M22s, what a difference, now I've got punch, in HT and music. You will see alot of discussion about this in this forum, I don't believe there should be any set rules as to what type of speakers to use with a particular system. I believe you use what sounds best to your ears.

if you are going to listen to a lot of 5.1 music, i would put M22's in the back. Personally, I find the M22's better then the M40's. You might end up switching them to the front if you buy them
While a lot of people would suggest M22s, the M3 sound may match better with the M40s (identical drivers). If you've got the dough, another pair of towers would simply ROCK.
Why not a second pair of the M40TiSe?
I've always been an advocate of using the identical speaker for front and effects. Nothing beats perfect timbre and performance matching IMHO. Especially when multi-channel music will be a source.
