I want to purchase some QS8's. The problem is that I will be mounted them either above a doorway (rear mounting behind seating) or on a boxed-out beam (side mounting). In either case, the speaker will be mounted on the wall with only 2" between the top of it and a suspended ceiling. Is this too close, considering there the 5.25" woofer?

If I downgrade to the QS4's, I would then have at least 4" between the ceiling and the speaker.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jason

You can't hang them from the ceiling? I would think 2" might be to close, not sure. I have about 4-5" and my Qs8's hang down from a boxed in beam area as well about 7ft off the ground. Below is a pic of my DIY Menards shelf bracket mounts.

It must be the angle of your photograph...but that looks a lot smaller than 4-5".

Below is a pic of where my rear left surround will go: either above the doorway, or about 2-3' in from the rear wall on the beam. I don't want to ceiling mount above the doorway, because then it would hang in front of the casing.

I know this is just a 5.25" woofer: not strong enough to lift the ceiling tile....but what about rattle it being that close?

Axiom? Any input?

I just went down to measure as you had me curious, I have 5 1/2 inches from the top woofer to the ceiling. Here is another pic from behind when I had mansfield beach Qs8's. The shelf bracket worked great as I was able to conceal my wiring nicely.

Axiom also makes a Qs8 ceiling bracket that will let you angle the Q's down slightly. I believe Alan as mentioned on many posts that you should try to have close to 4" if possible, but some people have gone closer. If your saying that you could mount them below that beam about 2-3ft in from the wall, that might work. The beam does not look that wide so it might not cause to much problems with bass.

My ceilings are 9ft tall in the basement, so the boxed in area is about 8.2ft off the ground. I think the bottom of my qs8's are around 7ft off the ground.
