I'm planning on getting a new amplifier for my Axioms..
(VP150 center, M22's rear, M50's front)
I just want to know if the Parasound 2205AT is too much amp for my speaker setup. The Parasound is rated at 220W X 5 channels (RMS).

Any opinons????

Unless you have a cathedral of an HT room, I doubt you'd ever get it above half its capable volume. As such, you're never going to get near that 220W.

how much is that amp, anyway? Semi On is right, a good 220 wpc channel amp is good for a loft or a large basement. Unless you have this, or like to damage your ears, you won't need it.

IF you buy a lesser amp, with the money left over you can buy a nicer TV or better speakers.

I say, GO FOR IT! I doubt you will ever use all the 220 WPC but if you need them they will be there. What you should take into consideration is the quality of the sound this amp will deliver . And who knows, you may decide to upgrade to M80s all around, that's when 220 WPC comes in handy.

Patchwork,

I can get the amp for $1600 shipped...

Also, I realize I may never reach the amps limit, but isn't it also true that the speakers sound quality will be better at all volumes with the increased Power?????

Some say yes, some say no. All things in the A/V realm are disputed it seems. Regardless, it's a gorgeous amp and that's a good price. Audition it first (or maintain the ability to return it) and if you fall in love, buy it. You won't have any problems.

nph187,

wow, that is a truly great price. Yes, the more clean power the better. If you can afford it and not have to reduce the quality of anything else in your system, but all means, go for it. I would buy it if I had 1600$ lying around! You will, as Semi_On says, love it.
