I have a small listening area 10 x 12, and decided to use QS4's in the rear. Y also have a vp150 for the center and M60's for the front. I have an extra M22 that I thought I might use as a rear center. My couch backs up against the rear wall. My question is, is it worthwile to use the M22 in this type of set up and if I do, how do I best stuate the QS4's and the M22 for best affect. Thanks.

With your couch up against the back wall you are somewhat limited to what you can do but still in good shape for 5.1 I wouldn't bother with a rear center channel. It will end up directly over your head and probably be more distracting than actually presenting 'rear' oriented sounds.

Depending on your room layout, the QS4s should be relatively to each side of the couch. Again, due to couch positioning, you don't want them exactly in the rear corners so a few feet to the front will not hurt. I understand the QS lineup to be very forgiving to this because of the way they can direct & reflect sound backwards against your rear wall. They should also be a few feet higher than your listening height. Just make sure they are not tight against the ceiling as they have a driver that points upwards and it needs a foot or two of room to breath.

Speaker stands are also an option for the QS4's to place them to either side of your couch if the walls present problems.

It may be worth experimenting with angling it down in a vertical orientation. I wouldn't suggest orienting it horizontally because the imaging will sound "off".

Just for grins and giggles try that M22 as a comparative to the 150 for a center channel, that room size may be a tad small for anything other than a 5.1 system.

But I do believe I have read amongst these threads somewhere ... "You can never have too much".

Been there. Tried the 6.1 behind the couch.

Stick with 5.1

Eddie, with your listening position being maybe just a foot from the back wall there doesn't seem to be much of a back surround effect that a speaker could add. As was suggested, you might try that M22 as a center speaker instead, at least as a comparison. If you stay with the 5.1 setup the QS4s should be positioned either on the side walls just a few inches from the back wall or on the back wall just a few inches from the side walls. In either case place them 2-3' above ear level.
