So i have been lurking and posting here for awhile...a bastard child....but I finally placed an oder for my first Axiom product...a pair of QS8 surrounds.

I hope to at some point replace all of my speakers, but I cannot afford that for a bit. These surrounds will be my side surrounds and the bose 4.2 speakers that have faithfully served me since 1989 will be graduated to the back surrounds.

I placed the order today (Friday 11/23) how long does shipping to Virginia usually take? I will post pics after everything is in place...

WAAAAAHHHHHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

here are some before pics:

As you can see, I have the wires close to the ceiling and plan to put crown moulding up to hide them. The wires behind the TV going up the wall have since been snaked through the wall. The after pics will be much better, but I doubt the crown will be up by then.

Here you go, it looks like the pathway was incorrect.

Congrats, vassillios! I, too, just purchased some QS8s and, let me tell you, they're great. I immediately noticed a difference when I ran test tones through 'em to calibrate--the sound was enveloping. The QS8s really add some depth to the rear soundstage and truly live up to the term "surround" speakers.

Congratulations and nice pictures. One thing you may want to do is also try the QS8s using 5.1. In my room with back walls to reflect off of a back speaker (not QS8s) didn’t sound as good to me with matrixed recording like DD-EX or DTS-ES Matrix. Only DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 sounded better than the two QS8s did working alone. While that could also have something to do with how my Denon handles the Matrixed recordings. So in my case I found more speakers doesn’t always sound better others have found the complete opposite just something you might want to consider.

Thanks HAY, I figured it out before I saw you post...but thanks for the help.

St_Patguy....I can't WAIT! I plan on mounting the bose up close to the ceiling for the back surrounds. Just switch where they are now and mounted up...i'll be doing that this weekend. I wanted to get the high gloss cherry but thought they wouldn't match the bose finish (that and the axiom rep said "don't expect them for 4 weeks"...screw that, I want them now).

I might get another 2 QS8's in the future, but i'll wait to see how this set-up will sound. I'm geussing the bose will make great back surrounds. You'll get a better idea of the set-up after i post the after pics.

thanks grunt...i'm trying to decifer what you meant ;\)

I only plan on using 5.1 or 6.1. I have never (even though I haven't heard it) had much faith in matrixed modes. What I really hope to do is a get a panny 10ak BD player and use the 7.1 analog out to my 7.1 ext in Denon 2307 to get True HD & DTS HD. But that is a while from now as the cash i'm laying down for the QS8's will deplete my outflow for a bit. BUT...the thing is when I get the player, I can really utilize it.

And I would like to ask your personal opinions...which would produce the better result, using these bose for back surrounds:

A) use their current directional placement, only mounted up close to the ceiling (on the side walls)

or

B) switching them and mounting them up close to the ceiling on the back wall as opposed to the side walls

And to give you all an idea, the QS8's will go above the door on the right and on the overhang on the left. The couch is usually moved forward a bit during movies (the wifey likes it back more for everyday living).

Sorry for being confusing I’m trying to do to many things at the same time. I thought from your first post you were planning a 6.1 or 7.1 setup right now using your old speakers as the back surrounds. I tried the same thing and found that it only sounded better when using movies/music actually recorded in 6.1 or 7.1. I found that movies/music recorded in 5.1 or 5.1 Matrixed formats sounded better using only my two QS8s placed slightly farther back than conventional side surround placement dictates.

With 5.1 or 5.1 Matrixed to 6 channels I don’t hear the same depth in the rear soundstage with the QS8s at the sides even with an additional sixth speaker in the back as I got with the QS8s alone but place slightly farther back than conventional side surround placement.

On the other hand when playing a 6.1 source like X Men The Last Stand having the sixth rear speaker did make the rear soundstage sound deeper and more distinct from the sides.

In a nutshell most of what is available on Standard Definition (5.1 or 5.1 Matrix) sounds better to me using just two QS8s placed about half way between where side surrounds and back surrounds would go in a 7.1 setup. Only the discrete 6.1 sources sounded better to me when using a sixth rear speaker and placing the QS8s at the sides.

I should qualify everything by saying that this is how it sounded to me using my system in my room which from the look your pictures is not as deep as your room. So your experience with 6 or 7 speakers may be very different from mine but the QS8s are truly amazing speakers which sound better in a 5.1 format than my two friends 7.1 systems sound.

I think B would sound much better.

Thanks grunt....I concur...I do not plan to matrix 5.1 material to 6.1 or 7.1

And option B is my current plan..unless convinced otherwise.

Looks great Vassillios, congrats and keep us posted with pics whenever you do start adding the rest of the Axioms ... those things outside your windows, are they called mountains or hills? I'm thinking I saw pictures of that type of terrain in National Geographic some time back. \:\)

V, very good. Sure, use B) and position the Bose on the back wall, but separated enough to be outside the couch on both sides. Don't overlook the usefulness of DPLIIx for both 2 and 5 channel material when back surrounds are available; at least experiment with it.
