The QS4's will surround you in sound like no other speaker out there(well except the QS8s\:\). The direct radiating nature of the M2's will draw your focus to them when there are sounds coming from them, very easy to locate the sound in the room. The QS series sends sounds out in 4 directions making it much harder to pinpoint where those noises are coming from. Now if you are more interested in music then The QS4's are no slouch but I believe the M2s win in this department but only by a little.

I ran M22s, VP100 and 3 QS8s for 4years before moving the M22sand VP100 upstairs and replaced them with M80s and VP150. You will not be disappointed by the QS series, they blend perfectly with the M22/VP100.

If the speakers will be close to the couch that makes me think you have a relatively small room, so another vote for QS surrounds. M2s are great as surrounds if you can put them a fair distance away (so room reflections can help to diffuse the sound) but in a smaller room the QS surrounds make a huge difference.

Brandan, as John B. commented, with the surrounds that close to the couch it would be desirable to have the widest dispersion possible at that short distance, which would favor the QS4s.

QS4s and try not to mount them at the same level as your ears.
