DTS-HD Master Audio brings Blu-ray movies on PS3 to life, delivering everything from explosive sound effects to intricate orchestral scores with pure, high-quality audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the original studio master. DTS-HD Master Audio has the capacity to deliver audio at the incredibly high variable rate of 24.5 mega-bits per second (Mbps) on Blu-ray disc, a rate significantly higher than standard DVDs. DTS-HD Master Audio also offers 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths. More than 100 Blu-ray movies and concert videos featuring premium DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks are available.

Additionally, the DTS-HD High Resolution Audio codec allows content creators to deliver uncompromised, high-definition audio on Blu-ray, while requiring less disc space than DTS-HD Master Audio. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio streams audio at a high constant bit rate of 6.0 Mbps on Blu-ray discs, and is also capable of up to 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depth resolution, thereby producing outstanding sound quality.

Great news for PS3 owners, it's supposed to release on April 15th.
I'm really happy with Sony for the first time in a long time. If they had made the unit with IR instead of Bluetooth I would rate the PS3 a 10/10.

IR for the game controllers would be awful though. If they made it with BOTH I agree it would be better... but replacing Bluetooth would be a big negative in my book.

Right, they should have INCLUDED IR. But to tell you the truth, I'm happy enough using the controller as a remote, although the learning curve sux.

Is this decoding or bitstreaming? Sounds like decoding (which I think belongs in the player, not the receiver).

My taxes have been done for a while now, and the money already allocated. Besides, I don't want a PS3 in my house! I am having a hard enough time keeping up with my favorite PC games since we got the Wii, and I've got 3 games for the Wii that I haven't even loaded yet...

Yeah the PS3 can only decode the formats, not bitstream them, because of hardware constraints. I don't know all the mumbo jumbo, but you can easily find it on any thread about DTS-HD MA. It converts any of those formats to LPCM and sends it to the receiver

in addition, on the AVS Playstation forum, it has been said that even if you choose bitstream, it still sends the lossless codecs as LPCM. I have not been able to confirm. But yes, it will NOT send the audio to your receiver to be processed by the receiver.

If i remember correctly, there are two settings for the sound, one for optical and one for HDMI in the Playstation settings. Each one you can set to Bitstream or Linear PCM. I tried to make my PS3 bitstream to my receiver once and it told me that if I set HDMI to bitstream it would not bitstream the HD tracks. I can't remember if it would have not decoded them, or just continued decoding and sending as LPCM, but basically yeah, vassillios, it can only go LPCM.
