Ken's head exploded.

Congrats Ken, I look forward to posting the same thing later this week when my EP-600 ends its vacation in Syracuse and decides to come down to Texas.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: EP350v3 - 04/13/08 03:47 PM
It's really something else. The first few things I put on, I couldn't get it to work (??), but then I popped in Galaxy Quest, flipped to the first starship scene, and there it was! Then I put in Dire Straits--Money for Nothing, and there was stuff in the bass I'd never heard before! Same deal with Sting and NIN. Time Out (Brubeck) wasn't nearly so bass present, but it still sounded great on SACD. We threw in Hell Freezes Over (Eagles) and watched that at rather high (for us) volumes for awhile. I'm really impressed with this sub. Haven't done any real calibration yet, other than my wife saying, "That's not enough bass!"

Can Veils be Lifted from Bass or does that only apply to the Highs?

Maybe the material needs to be heavier. Would you say it's like the "Burlap Has Been Lifted?"

More like a quilt has been lifted...

Ken. I can't remember, what is this replacing?
Posted By: Ken.C Re: EP350v3 - 04/13/08 08:18 PM
At the moment, nothing. Before it died, my Cambridge Soundworks Powered Subwoofer 1. The best subwoofer I could find 10 years ago for $700. Sigh. Times, they do change.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: EP350v3 - 04/14/08 03:58 AM
That thing was $700? Wow. What business did you even have buying that thing? I guess my only recollection of the cost was the number of months I helped pay your rent.

Strange thing is I seem to remember having something to do with getting you to ignore your better judgment.... \:\)
Posted By: Ken.C Re: EP350v3 - 04/14/08 06:27 AM
Oh, just a tad. I think I paid $600 for it, as it was a floor model.

Hi Ken,

I'm really delighted you like it.

Regards,

I did have a question about the auto on/off. Does anyone know how long it stays on after it's triggered, and/or how long it takes to warm up after it's triggered on?
Posted By: SirQuack Re: EP350v3 - 04/14/08 04:27 PM
I asked Jakeman about that if he recommended I use that feature. He said to use the "auto sense" mode if your sub has one, not all have this feature.

I've done some testing with various tracks, and it seems to come on pretty fast, like the speed of light, just joking. \:\)

I was wondering how long it takes to turn off as well, but the other night I got tired of waiting and went upstairs...
Posted By: EFalardeau Re: EP350v3 - 04/14/08 04:51 PM
I think I missed somthing in one of the EP350 threads. Does the new EP350 have an auto-on/off?
Posted By: SirQuack Re: EP350v3 - 04/14/08 04:53 PM
yup, on the back there is a switch to disable/enable the auto sensing to turn on/off the sub. You can disable the circuit and it will be on all the time, or make use of the option to conserve energy and make Al Gore happy. \:\)
Posted By: EFalardeau Re: EP350v3 - 04/14/08 04:54 PM
Cool! I had that with my previous sub (it was utter crap, but had auto-sensing and a remote!).
Posted By: dllewel Re: EP350v3 - 04/14/08 08:56 PM
That is awesome news Ken. Sounds like you are a happy camper, or if not, at least a happy audio listener. \:\)
Posted By: Ken.C Re: EP350v3 - 04/15/08 04:08 PM
Well, I have some limited data. Either it stays on at pretty low volumes (-50 on the dial, I usually watch TV when The Boy is awake at -35) and turns off after about 10 minutes, or it stays on at -45, and turns off after 30 minutes. ;\)
