OK, I've been driving myself nuts over the last two weeks over this sub stuff. Endless looking at specs, reading through posts, trying to sort through conflicting opinions...

I swear, if I do this much longer, I'm gonna go over the deep end. I know, you already think I have.

So, I called Axiom and upgraded my order to a full home theater... including the EP350. If I apply the money saved against the cost of the 350, thats a reasonable price for a good sub.

Two things (besides going crazy) pushed me over the edge. One was this thread about bullets. I don't need for everything, well anything really, to slam me in the chest. I think I can live without the larger than life effects if a sub pumping out 115db of slam.

The other think was a post that got me thinking about my audition at Axiom. When comparing the M80 to the M22 + EP350 I remember how the 350 seemed to really open up the bass in music.

If the M80 is capable of good clean bass, the EP350 is even more capable. I am not convinced other subs will do this unless I spend a lot more money. This is to be a music first system and I don't want to compromise my music for 5db of thump on the bottom end. Add the discount and it tips things in favour of the 350.

Having written all this, it was a hard decision, even having listened to the EP350. It seems to me that the sub market had really moved forward. If the EP350 dug a little deeper and kept its musical fidelity, its would be a slam dunk... thump...

Now, JP, have you packed those speakers yet?

It's going to be a great system.

I don't think i put forth this post of a SVS 16-46 vs EP350 listening test. Maybe it would help you change your mind again.
Just for fun.

Thing is, Chess, that's pretty much a completely different EP350, from my understanding of things. different driver, different amp, different cabinet.

Thanks Jared. I'm really looking forward to it.

OK chess, I clicked anyway (who could resist) and your evaluation sums up why I went with the EP350. I grew up with music that didn't thump. I don't want the bass to overshadow, and unless I go with something like the PB13 I don't think I will get the music performance I want.

For the cost as part of a complete system I think the EP350 is a good place for me to start.

I would really love to listen to some pipe organ music with a sub that truely hits 16Hz, but it still needs to be tight and clean higher up.

If I decide I need more bass, I may end up trying to build my own. There seems to be a ton of software out there for modeling and designing subs. I like to build stuff so it might actually be fun.

Hmm... wonder how the neighbours would feel about me cranking up my 10" table saw in my apartment.

Indeed Ken, there have been changes.
I was one of a few who reported a port chuff issue way back with the EP350 and since i heard about the latest revision with changes to the port and cabinet, i can only wonder how the two compare now.
I expect one would not hear a distinctively different character but perhaps a somewhat more controlled sound with the new version.

I'm actually thinking about moving to an EP500 at some point. Maybe with revision 3.

I still won't buy a SVS tube.

Very good, Fred. Get set up, enjoy some beautiful music, and stop worrying about the equipment.

Thanks John. I will. I tend to do all mu obsessing pre-purchase. I have been enjoying my Sony RP for the last 3 months. I'm looking forward to mating it with my Axioms.

I havn't been a big fan of music dvd's, but I think that is about to change.

I read through your review after reading the above comment but am a bit confused As I read it, you seemed to favor the SVS unit for your situation. What am I missing?

Hey Chesseroo.. hopefully my speakers will show up in the next couple weeks, including an ep350.

I could probably be persuaded to bring the sub across the city, in exchange for some speaker education one weekend afternoon \:\)

When Framer and I compared his old 350v2 to the 350v3 the v3 blew the old one away. The old one was anemic comparitavely speaking. The v3 has more power and sounds much closer to the EP600 when we had the v3 at mojo's. It is very controlled and has some good punch for HT. The v2 sounded more like my old 13yr old D-Box sub, really nothing special, just adds a little to the low end.

Karlman

There is another fellow in town who has an EP500.
I've been meaning to get together with him as well.

Lately i've been swamped with what feels like four jobs and a field season fast approaching.
I would have to squeeze it in between the out of town trips and our deck replacement.
My wine tasting quota is way off these days.
